  • Blimey! Pardon my ignorance but I didn't know Amazon were anything other than a sort of online shop.
  • Good god no. Amazon have been making some of the best shows on TV for a few years now.

It's a "yay" from me as I love LOTR.

  • Prequels telling the stories of Aragorn, Gandalf et al between the events of The Hobbit and Bilbo's 111th birthday. Could be good as long as they don't try to0 stretch the material too thin with a lot of extra rubbish like the three Hobbit films did.

I hope they do one for Boromir as he's one of the more interesting characters in LOTR.

  • All of me is saying... its Amazon. Seriously the worst TV streaming service you could have the misfortune to have to pay for. Netflix pee's all over it.
I mean, they expect you to pay for 'Fear The Walking Dead', the low budget 'Walking Dead' with completely unlikable characters and mindlessly regurgitating single plot (go place, someone die, take over, go next place, repeat repeat repeat) - on top of Prime, you should pay actual money for that. Fk Amazon, and download anything that you might watch from them.

Besides... its another desperate attempt to know Thrones of its throne, again. Do we really need a cheap and badly written Amazon show about LOTR... every episode will be a nail in the LOTR coffin.... what even is LOTR these days but 30 minutes of action over 20 hours of walking in hairy feet. The whole thing is diluted as much as the franchise is now - it's on an intellectual par with Despicable Me.

Can't say I've ever had a problem with it and I use it and Netflix a lot.

Not watched FTWD but from your description it sounds exactly like the plot of Walking Dead anyway. Gave up on that just after the Governor series - rince, repeat plotlines and something actually interesting happening once every few episodes. Took me a long time to realise it's just a very dull show!

I'm with boozy on this one, if anyone can cock up something like LOTR its TV. They'll just drag out the stories over 26 episodes with long boring stories and little action.
    Sod it!

  • Tolkien's relatives must be strapped for cash, this will be a show that probably starts off amazingly, with massively high budget episodes, then drops off into a watered down sham, that only the die hard fans will try to watch without crying as they do....and then it'll vanish....Or it'll be dragged out to the point when nobody knows WTF is happening anymore. Amazon has a lot of capital, but do they have enough to pay A list actors, and a budget to rival infact no given timelines produce better special effects than the LOTR movies per episode?

I'm curious how much of a train wreck this has the potential to be? :))

  • They have to, to make up for the lousy film collection they have on Prime.
I must admit, Man in the High castle was an excellent interpretation, so was American Gods. Personally not into the modern Zombi crap they produce these days ;)
But nothing beats Netlix's version of The Expanse.
    Sod it!

Sh*t Youtube are even making movies now....How f*cked up is that?

I'll be honest though...The Thinning did catch my eye, but there's no f*cking way on earth I'd ever pay Youtube to watch yet another crappy watered down dystopian future movie, full of pretty girls and lank haired teenage musclemen.

  • Bring in something involving the Shadow of Mordor story with some kind of 'Nemesis System' and it will pique my interest :)

The Man in the High Castle
    The Tick
    American Gods
Gortimer Gibbons (a kids show but it's brilliantly surreal)
    Transparent
    The Grand Tour
    Bosch
    Goliath

Those are just the ones I've got around to seeing - there's loads more. Thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The pilot of Jean Claude Van-Johnson was really good to - JCVD taking the pee out of himself. The first season's being shown from 15th December.

  • If they did The Silmarilion (its component tales as connected but distinct story-arcs) I would be very keen! Would need a YUGE budget of course... after all, you can’t show the rise and fall of Numenor, the fall of Gondolin, Morgoth doing his thing, Beleriand being torn asunder, etc without throwing some decent coin at it, let alone adapting the books to television.
