  • If they did The Silmarilion (its component tales as connected but distinct story-arcs) I would be very keen! Would need a YUGE budget of course... after all, you can’t show the rise and fall of Numenor, the fall of Gondolin, Morgoth doing his thing, Beleriand being torn asunder, etc without throwing some decent coin at it, let alone adapting the books to television.
it does say its meant to be prior to LOTR so itll be The Silmarilion stories i should imagine

  • But there's no news of involvement from the Tolkien estate. Ever since Peter Jackson's LOTR movies (which were only ever allowed to cover those books' content), the Tolkien family have distanced themselves from any possible adaptations.

One of the reasons it took so long to make The Hobbit movie(s) was because the license was tied up in a decades-old exclusive deal which took a while to unwind. The Tolkien estate has made no new deals.

As long as Christopher Tolkien's still alive (he's 92 - and even if he dies, his wishes will probably be honoured) no licensing deals are likely to be done for any of his father's other Middle Earth books (many of which he edited and published for him). So that would rule out The Silmarillion et al.

As for the possibility of using the period between The Hobbit and LOTR as a setting for 'new' stories, that risks diluting and tarnishing the original work and would IMO end up much worse than the similar extension job PJ did with the Hobbit movies.

remember they are only making extra stories, NOT redoing the whole saga (as far as im aware)

  • the zombi craps not even on amazon :P

Sci fi do the low end stuff, AMC do the likes of the walking dead, nowt to do with amazon
Amazon has Fear The Walking Dead.. https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CRBFI5Q

Yeah but they didn't make it, amc did

Yeah, but I'm responding to your statement ''the zombi craps not even on amazon'' - which it is, so it doesn't matter who actually makes it - that wasn't the point, the point is I said something and you said 'no it isn't', you can't just say OK I was mistaken and get on with your day... its kinda pointless discussing things here.

hahahahaha ok im bad, there better?
Maybe i miss put what i meant, but the whole point of the thread is about amazon MAKING something, walking dead isnt made my them so my point still stands, you cant use something you dont like against them if its not actually made by them.

  • Edit: the above link to the second variety article now includes the statement indicating that the Silmarilion is not part of the Amazon deal. That’s a shame to read, IMO. The Silmarilion is an amazing read, and I would love to see it realised onscreen!
