  • ^^^ Yes, but at least he's got his tea. Don't know whether it last a thousand years or not, though.
    What now?
  • I finally saw the film today and totally loved it! I also managed to avoid any spoilers at all :)

    Great film.
  • Best of the new Star Wars movies.....but that's not saying much.

  • I've seen it. It was always going to be the case that there would be elements which would "remind the older viewers" of sections of the original movies.

But I think it has enough plot twists and turns to both be original and entertaining. Well, at least, it held my attention for the whole film.

Don't click the spoiler if you have not yet seen the film...

  • Ah, but it's a kids film, not a physics lesson. You bend the rules if it makes it more fun.
    Spoiler:
  • I just watched it, and perhaps because I've skipped at least 2 movies now, it feels different.
    Spoiler:
  • I watched it today and it was really dissapointing. Definitely the worst SW film I've seen (even worse than eps. I, II or III).

    Spoiler:

And now I'm watching The Empire Strikes Back on TV. The irony...

  • Didn’t think it was bad at all. Think too many people want it to be 100% for them only but there’s a huge market to please. The kids seem to love it

Saw it twice. Not an all time classic but it was good. Seen some people say 4/10 etc or worst film ever which is ridiculous

    Well worth seeing

  • Finally saw The Last Jedi today and really enjoyed it!
It's not perfect, but no Star Wars movie is, and 'fans' completely slagging it off are being disingenuous IMO.

It is overly long, and rather than having a lot of surprising twists, I'd say that the plot really just consists of one MacGuffin after another! So it's full of plot holes, but most SciFi is anyway. And while I enjoyed the bits of humour sprinkled generously throughout, just a couple of times it was taken too far and seemed too out of character.

But overall it's an enjoyable addition to the saga, with some really different dramatic and artistic flourishes.
  • I liked TLJ. Although I preferred The Force Awakens and Rogue One, which I thought were both great. And I did consider myself to be an old school Star Wars fan. Generally, I think these new films are going pretty well so far.

There seem to be quite a few people in general (hardcore SW fans?) really hating TLJ, which I find quite odd. I would suggest, despite it's arguable flaws, that The Last Jedi is still leagues ahead of episodes 1-3 in terms of dialogue, script, likeable characters and overall Star Warsy-ness.

Episodes 1-3 seem to get worse every time I watch them! Although 3 is a bit better. I watched episode 2 with the kids the other day and found myself feeling quite board. Even the best bits now seem overloaded with too much obvious CGI. All the bloody clones seem to be [now-dodgy-looking] CGI. That film really needs some people in costumes, puppets, models and sets that are actually made of wood - just like Hayden Christensen's acting. The CGI Yoda seems terrible to me these days too. Like watching a cartoon. May as well just stick Rodger Rabbit in it.

And dare I say it, even episodes 4-6 seem a little ropey-er than I remember them when I watch them with the kids now. I still love them, but one of the lenses from my rose-tinted spectacles may have fallen out, and I realise some of the love is from childhood nostalgia. Which is fine.

My point is, I cannot quite understand why some people hate these recent films as much as they do. ALL the films can be criticised if you really want to.

Apparently someone started an online petition to get Disney to completely re-make Episode 8! Idiot! SURELY Disney should be asked to re-make episodes 1-3 !?
