  • Im umming and arring

on one hand i have a couple of proper 64s (bread bin and the later model) and a couple of the DTV joystick thingy

But on the other hand, its handier, loads of games in a smaller space and no need for a tape deck, and easier to use on modern tvs

  • Who'd want a recreated POS like the Commode? Horrible bloody machines at least from the programming in Basic point of view. I got stuck with a 'computer lab' full of them as a teacher and ended up buying several TS2068's out of my own money to give my small class a chance at using something decent. I really hated everything about the C64, its disgusting colour of turd brown, its clunky, finicky disc drives, its godawful bread box appearance. Damn it I wish I still had a TS2068 to play with, what a nice machine it was for its time.

  • So I take it you have one on Pre-order ?

    It was entertaining...

I had a joystick in the 00s era that looked just like that and contained a c64 emulation and a fair few games. That little bread-bin might as well not be there as all the electronics could easily fit in the joystick.

    It's nothing new.

I'd only consider buying it if the keyboard actually worked. There is nothing better than the real thing (unless your name is Mik3d3nch). I wonder if Miek would have been better buying Simon's Basic for his commodes.

What is Simons Basic in the unlikely event I ever have to work with a commode again?

Actually Scottie that made me think of something, in the first video where he's showcasing the games before he plays a few in the B section of the games it has BASIC.

WTF is the point of BASIC being there if there's no actual input/output for anything other than the Stick, and the display, and if the keyboard isn't functional, you can't type any instructions, so why is it even there? A gamer won't bother with it, and a retro nut is more likely to be extremely frustrated by it.

Turning it on once for nostalgia just ain't gonna cut the mustard with me, if you can't use it it's literally a waste of space.

  • OK I admit it, I was a Commodore 64 fan, I have never liked the Spectrum. I even have a real Commodore 64 as a keyring, and instead of a teddy bear I sleep next to my Commodore. ;)

  • Wasn't it Daren? And was his the ZX coloured shed, or was that yours UKScottee?
    What now?
  • LOL, you guys would hate my retro unit... it goes Amiga, C64, ST, then a +2 on the bottom shelf. To be honest, the real hardware experience on the C64 is great - even with just a Tapuino, I think the tape auto-stop is awesome, and it's a great machine.
Doesn't mean I don't love my Speccy, it means I love lots of old machines and would hate to restrict myself to 1 format... hell, who games on just 1 format these days! - there are some cracking games on the C64 that you might be missing out on.
  • I'll be honest since I live in the States I keep my eye out for a cheap commode, or any TS machines if I happen to be around a rummage/garage sale, or junk shops. I never gave the Timex machines much thought back in the day, but I became kind of intrigued with them after I moved here. I've only seen one I think, and it was in a cabinet at a second hand store with "Not for sale" tacked onto it. I asked the guy if he'd consider selling it, and he said no it's just for show. It doesn't have the original hook ups, and he said he'd improvised using other cables and things and as far as he knew the machine was dead.

Dunno about the states, but a good replacement powerpack for a 48k Speccy, and a Sega Genesis/Megadrive was a Tomy Atomic Pinball adaptor :))

  • Of all the machines I've owned my favourites were the original 48k Spectrum, the Timex Sinclair 2068 which I thought far superior to the Speccy and the Amiga 1000 which was by far my favourite of all time even today though PC's are much more powerful and usable they don't have the Amiga's vibe.

Besides my real love was animation and music both of which the Amiga excelled at. To my way of thinking theres never been an art program like DeLuxe Paint 3 and I did a lot of great animation with it. I even made a new version of Yellow Submarine for my daughter who loves the Beatles, I couldn't do it now on my PC there isn't the same user friendly software.

Photoshop etc may be the last word in programs,, I can't work with it or any of the others. In fact I still rely on DeLuxe Paint 2 which was only made for DOS machines and isn't as good as the Amiga version was but even so I'd still rather use it despite its limitations - I just work around them and fettle some files afterwards with shareware stuff since i refuse to pay ripoff prices for art programs.
