It is one of the bigger Tesco, perhaps the manager only likes cheese & onion
I can understand that as I went purposely to visit the 'small' one with the purpose of getting a few 'own brand' items only to find they did not have them, they were not stupid / not popular things either it was basic stuff like their own branded soups.
*shrugs* :D
Mind you, their own brand 'Salt + Black Pepper' crisps are very nice indeed (online order) , almost the same as Morrisons, the only difference really I see is the Tesco ones have the variety and growers details on the bag, otherwise they taste about the same to me.
^^^ That bag has lasted me a month. They're good, for sure. But this size bag is too much. When you get near the bottom of it, each and every single one of them suckers tastes oddly greasy, like the ones near the bottom act as a sponge for the ones up above.
I was thinking about this the other day, I don't know if its just erm "market forces" or perhaps a regional thing but I seem to recall back in the early 80's or thereabouts Golden Wonder seemed to be available a bit more.
I won't say "popular" as its individual preferences I guess. Locally for me at least, they are not easy to find as I do not have anything other than tiny 'convenience' shops, supermarkets are a few miles away.
I remember by about the late 90's they were almost completely impossible to get round my way. Some of the pound shops would occasionally have multi-packs with the 3 obvious flavours in, and they'd only ever be 6 packs with 2 of each in.
Other than that the only place that seemed to sell them was pubs, just about every pub round my way had Golden Wonder crisps, which was weird as you could rarely get them in shops.
Maybe there was some sort of weird agreement in place with the breweries or something ridiculous like that?
I think by the late 90's Walkers had just about annihilated Golden Wonder which was a shame, i remember they even went bankrupt at one point.
I prefer GW to Walkers as i feel the flavours are better but they aren't as easy to get and don't have as much flavours available anymore. It seems that smoky bacon for example are only available in multipacks.
What does seem to be very rare (around here anyway, Derby fwiw) are the McCoys 'Thick Cut' bags, the meat variety anyway. Also the single packs of McCoys ready salted, not the 'chipshop' ones, the regular ones... I've not been able to locate any apart from online supermarket shopping, and then it seems a bit hit/miss.
Don't know if its just me or not but its kind of 'crisp' related. Pringles vs Stax:
I very rarely buy Pringles (maybe two or three times a year) I'll get a 'ready salted' tube of them , but the past couple of times I've got Stax instead simply as they were there, same ready salted flavour.
They do seem to taste a bit more 'crisp' like somehow. I do realise they are probably made in a different way.
My only complaint here is the lack of flavours for Stax (in the UK at least, compared to what is offered in the rest of Europe it seems)
Having said that there are some nice looking Pringles flavours, just waiting for my local B+M to have them in at some point.
I found Stax too salty and a bit greasy so didn't eat them again.
I used to like Pringles but same for me, i would mostly just have ready salted. I also liked the BBQ Steak ones but they made me thirsty.
If you look up Pringles flavours online you'll find the USA has some really strange flavours.
I'm eating Walmart 'Great Value' Salt and Vinegar Flavor. At 85c a for a big bag they are good value and have a taste reminiscent of Golden Wonder Salt and Vinegar.
I note my local shop now has Walkers BBQ Rib flavour in, can't find them on their site. They are in a magenta(ish) normal size pack though.
I'd post a pic but as above I can't find a pic of this bag. Camera batteries are flat otherwise I'd take a pic of the bag I have in the cupboard.
Quite nice they are very similar to 'BBQ' flavour in a dark brown/black wrapper they had on that 'Bring Me Back' thing last year (or the year before?) but the flavour in these new ones is only about half as intense. Its still a welcome return*** though as I miss those BBQ ones, nearest flavour I found to them was the Bugles otherwise.
Other than Walkers, Pringles have to be the most over-rated crisps. Plain or Sour Cream and Onion are just about edible, the other flavours are absolutely rank.
We bought some of those Fish and Chip crisps the other day that I used to live on as a kid. Still great - even the kids loved them.

They are actually quite moreish :D nom !!!
The flavour's not too bad, but the texture is fairly unpleasant.

*** I think they are a temporary edition.
Leave my key out of this :D
