Looking for a kind/brand of drink

I had a hankering for a cocoa drink, so I got myself a bottle of Malibu. Haven't touched the thing for a very long time, probably over 25 years by now.

Anyways, I thought Malibu was a thick, white liquid but this thing is like water and yes, it's the right flavor.

Did they change it from "thick, white" and then when? Or am I thinking of a different brand of the same drink, and if so, then what's the brand?

What now?

but if you're giving it as a present to someone that you don't like, then you are more than welcome to add some.

Maybe you're thinking of Baileys bristol cream or whatever it's called.

  • I've never been a massive fan of it and my memories from about 1990 was that it was a runny liquid, not thick at all. Like Mat, I would think Baileys or similar (can't stand that stuff either).

  • I used to like an occasional Baileys with Ice until i found out it was a 'girlie' drink. I never touched it again :))

  • Is it that Amarula stuff with the elephant on the front?
  • Yes you're right, when it first came out Malibu was quite thick, I suppose it got watered down to reduce manufacturing costs
Mind you its easy to fake with a can of coconut cream and some white rum
  • Malibu was all the young girlies would drink to get off their heads without the taste of alcohol. and the smell of the busses on a Monday morning after all of the sick was cleaned up. Put me right off the smell of that stuff.

  • I remember Malibu being like it is now. Quite like the stuff, although I can only have a couple before it gets a bit too sickly for me. Same goes for Southern Comfort.
  • I like Southern Comfort, it's nice with cola, pepsi or lemonade.

  • I also like Southern Comfort and I wouldn't have described it as 'too sickly'.
  • Haven't had one of those split bottles of Sheridans in a while. That's quite nice.

  • I quite like Malibu...but if it's like everything else food and drink these days...it will have gone cheap and nasty. Have a Tia Maria ..that's a bit cocao or coffee.
I stole it off a space ship.
  • If Malibu was ever thick, it was a very long time ago. I don;t think I've touched the stuff since the mid 80s, but it looked much the same as vodka then.
  • I'm quite happy to concede that a drunken recollection from 50 years ago is probably mistaken. So perhaps the 'thin' Malibu is how its always been. I only ever drank the stuff once and must have been blitzed to even try it since I'm not and never have been a regular liquor drinker.
  • Maybe you're getting it confused with an 80's cocktail that contained it - I'm guessing it was quite popular in cocktails, and there's no end of creamy white 80's liquids they could have added it to, the 80's was a decade of girly drinks after all.... White Russians, Black Russians, Advocat, Baileys, Babycham... some of us wouldn't be here if not for these :D
  • I used to drink Babycham also Pink Lady when I was 6
