Yeah i was. The other two Wilson brothers are dead, years ago people thought Brian would be the first to go as he had multiple health and mental problems.
Bizarre decision, quite clearly a reaction to him being named the new Real Madrid manager.
I don't think it's so bizarre. Keep on mind that as a manager, he can borrow spaniard players from any team. What if he borrows some stars from Futbol Club Barcelona some days before a Real Madrid-Futbol Club Barcelona? Won't it be a conflict of interests?
BTW: I'm not soccer fan, but I don't think it will kill their chances. A manager can lead and motivate, but in the end the players are the ones that kick the ball.
I was there, too
An' you know what they said?
Well, some of it was true!

he also chooses the tactics, formation, what subs to bring on when, he'll have studied the opposition and worked out how they play, now there will be a caretaker in charge who may not have that all down as well?

Absolutely Mel. The manager would have had the players for a few weeks now and tactics and style of play will have been determined for each opposition team in that time. A caretaker manager may have entirely different ideas for how they will play, so their tika-taka style might be transformed into long-ball, for instance. I doubt it and Spain have enough excellent players to cater for any style but it is definitely going to upset their rhythm. For me, with this move, they've gone from one of the four favourites (Germany, France and Brazil being the others) to semi-finalists at best.

I understand your thinking, but do you think he's the only one in the team?. I mean, he is helped by a lot of people, that know about his intentions. Even the players know how were expected to play. I don't think that three days is time enough to trash all the previous work.

maybe, maybe not, it doesnt help your final preparations tho, and generally the manager is chosen as hes the best, the caretaker is generally somebody of a lesser calibre / experience, sure gonna be fun watching to find out :P

I thought the same thing about Brian Wilson, he looked like the one who wouldn't make it, now he's the only one left.
I think original members Mike Love, Al Jardine and touring member Bruce Johnston would disagree with that. ;)
