Isuzu Piazza in the UK?

Having recently discovered this model and fell in love with it (the first generation) I was wondering if anyone remembers it too or knows any stories about it..

Although the later cars must be the best ('handling by lotus' and fixed flaws) I found earlier ones more desirable for the pure design, "waffle" wheels, digital dash, rear view mirrors on bonnet, etc.
Those never got to the UK?

  • I just remember the Trooper used to fall over if you took a corner faster than 20mph :))

Hey, don't be, I read the piazza could leave a burned trail behind.. :)

That is called Barry Sheen's autograph :p

  • He was extremely lucky to have survived that acident.

The piazza however, is more of a heart-stopper once it grows on you.
  • It must have to grow on you, I'm no car person, but I've seen more handsome Skoda, or Lada's than it. It may have handling by Lotus, but it looks like it was designed by a bunch of moonshine drinking Romanians from some small village in the Parâng Mountains :))

  • Actually it was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro - the concept car 'Asso di fiori' at least.
Isuzu managed to put almost everything into series production which is by no means a small feat.

Come on, don't tell me those raised eyebrows didn't catch your attention...
  • No more than the smile on an original VW Beetle :p

  • You can post pics of it, and link to a forum where other people love it, but it's horrible, there's no denying it's an ugly duckling.

I don't care if it handles like a dream and it's fuel efficient or whatever it looks like the b*stard lovechild of a Volkswagen Polo, and a Rice Krispies box.....Sorry :))

  • Looks like someone sat on a Vauxhall Cavalier. Sorry Renegade I agree with Boozy.
  • No, no, I was hoping somebody would notice the following:

Mr. mik3d3nch, you got this version in the USA:

It isn't terrible looking, 80's considering I suppose.

The USA had the Delorean before that and look now how it draws much interest.
  • Ugly. It has that ridiculous wedge thing going on like old Hondas. Like an elephant's sat on the bonnet.

Nah Guesser....Not quite....This still looks better, and it's actually had an elephant sit on it ;)

I really can't remember this model. Was it rare in the UK? Some of the styling reminds me of a Hyundai Pony I once had. I've recently had to say goodbye to my little Ford Puma as it wasn't going to pass the new mot rules without spending way more than it's worth. Having to plod about on my scooter now, but at least the weather is good for it.

I thought people enjoyed wedgies passing them on the streets. :))
  • I thought this was about a Pop group...………………….

  • Yes we had Piazzas in the UK. If I remember right, parts of them fitted something else so a lot got scrapped as donor cars.
  • Donor Pizza's I though you could only get Donor kebabs

  • I wanted one of them when I was a kid. I knew a guy with one...sorta lilac metallic. Today..its a bit of an odd looking car I think. Well..I only got a Piazza funghi at the end of the day...and a Renault Fuego.
I stole it off a space ship.
  • Hey, the Renault Fuego is an interesting car, especially the ones fitted with the retractable sunroof. Not exactly top performers (except perhaps the turbo variant) but still hold very adequate and acceptable road behaviour.
The USA versions have slight changes (headlamps, bumpers, side-markers, decals) which make them IMHO even more desirable.

The Fuego, I saw quite a lot of those as a kid and kind of like it. To me it seems like the kind of sports car that an English teacher would drive.Well if it were a person it would be Tim Brook Taylor. Kind of fun, lovable, not ugly, looked better in its younger days and can still entertain. If it were a music fan it would listen to 80s Genesis and maybe Marrilion. If you look at it, it kinds looks like a Quatro that's melted and drooped in the mid day sun. That's appropriate given its name. Maybe its a bustard off spring of an Allegro and a Quatro. It looks like a Bertone creation, but it was Michael Jardin apparently.

  • So basically it's the motor vehicle version of the annoying mid life crisis twat who doesn't like hip hop but tries to breakdance at a wedding?
    Every night is curry night!
  • I work with a chap who ripped one to pieces last year to take the engine and drivetrain to put in a Vauxhall Chevette, as aparently, the Piazza is based upon the same floorpan. Personally, I think the Piazza is nicer by far!

Occasionally these still play on my car-stereo.. must be the ghost in the machine not wanting to give up!

    Yes, I agree.
Isuzu put a lot of effort into it and made (in its day) a modern/attractive package like japanese makers were delivering in the 80's.
  • Oh...The Fuego was the 2nd car I ever had..and it was already ancient. I always looked for unusual cars. Had it for just 2 months and it was a wreck. (drove it about illegally). Cant remember any sunroof exactly. It was like this one here..and had this type of wheel discs. Cheese graters. Mid life crisis... Hmmm.
