soviet roofs

edited August 2007 in Games
the instructions to soviet state:
"Reconocer?s los edificios donde se encuentren los rehenes observando las azoteas."
("You will recognize the buildings where are the hostages observing the roofs." in computer translation.)

does anybody know how to recognize them?

I have this game, I will load it today on my Spectrum, and maybe I will be able to help you out.

    Cheers :)

thanx a lot, if you consider it worth examining...
(i don't need it vitally, nevertheless... :-) anyway, i´ve a suspicion, the yellow things should indicate the presence of hostages, but it doesn´t seem to be always the case.)

Speking about roofs in Soviet :)

Have you noticed some verions of this game (like tzx verson), here at WOS seem to have damaged graphics. It is especially seen in the roofs.

    Bad graphics (tzx version):

And good version (.dsk file version):

Maybe you know, is it a problem of a bug in a game code or incorrect dumping of the tape?

i haven't noticed it so far, although i've been using the bad vesion! :-) (maybe the cause of my problems...)

btw, do you also find the game so cool?
(i'd say it's one of few late speccy games original in their feel/gameplay!)

I just loaded the game, and the roofs are damaged too, so it seems the tzx of the game is ok, cos I own a cassette version of the game,

Responding the other question, I can't recognise the roofs of the hostages, maybe I have to look better.

Its a good game but quite difficult.

    Cheers!

I think I know the roof thing now : If you look well, there is in some of the top of the roofs the sign of the former ussr in yellow color, the one in its flag (i dont know the words in english). Out of those buildings the hostages keep coming out.

    Hope that works

    cheers

seems so. i also experienced my abovementioned impression, the rule doesn't work in all cases, was not justified probably. (i just don't recognize hammer & sickle in the things...)

yet, my another question is - how the hell does the game manage to move your tank in 4-pixels steps with no color clashes??!!
    :???:

sorry, is not so puzzling actually, as the tank doesn't move in fact. yet still - far more ingenious treatment of colors then in lightforce...
