Wizard's Lair Sprite/Graphic sheet?

Hi
I'm seeking a Wizard's Lair Sprite/Graphic sheet for a project I'm considering.
Does anyone have one or know the address of one (I know SOMEONE will say "do one yourself!") but no point re-inventing the wheel!

TIA

  • PS
The Sprites are the most useful as I can easily grab the graphics from maps here on WOS.

  • I did a little work last year trying to work out the data format of the rooms. This included a program that dumped the various tiles a room can be composed of in .PPM format. I've put it (and the resulting PPM files) at http://www.seasip.info/ZX/wizlair.zip .

The 16x16 tiles for collectable objects are from 0xF90C to (I think) 0xFFAC.

    wl2.gif

Click on the picture file, it will open a new browser, then click on "download original image" and it will save it to your 'downloads' directory as a .gif file to bung into your favourite art program.

I've always liked using the Spectrum Graphics Editor when searching for image data. Have a look at that.

  • Thank you guys, all that is much appreciated, and exactly what I was seeking.
Saving me loads of time and head-scratching

    Again..... Cheers!
  • Do any of you guys know how he did the "line drawn" room data on the upper levels?

It doesn't seem to be tile based (or is it?)

  • You're right, the room outlines are actually line-drawn. You can see this in a video of the game as it draws them onscreen when you enter a room.

Probably calling the ROM routines. It's too much hassle looking up all the algorithms and writing your own line-drawing routines unless you really need the speed for vectors and 3D.

(If you really want to, Google 'Bresenham', but for God's sake don't click on the Wikipedia entry as like anything mathematical it's so far up it's own @rse it can see its own tonsils).

  • The Advanced Spectrum machine language book has some nice straight forward line drawing routines in Z80.
    Sod it!

  • I think it uses a modified version of the ROM drawing code - take a look at around DC97.
  • One more thing.....

Did anyone come up with a routine to remove/disable the baddies and/or no-pass items, to allow movement with impunity?

    I know it's a long shot, but worth a try :)
