HAWK THE SLAYER - New Audio Drama

Hi all,
I'm just gauging interest, testing the water, and, umm, sort of prematurely letting the cat outta the bag with my project that I started working on Summer last year. /

What would you be prepared to pay for the following NEW official full-cast audio drama production of Hawk the Slayer?

Y'see I need to set realistic goals based on support. This will be up to 4 discs. 2 for the play, 1 for the "Making of," and 1 for soundtrack (new music.) Don't worry, the old soundtrack is still part of the production.
Thank yoooou

  • There isn't an option for a £5 download, and that's the top end I'd pay for something like this.

I don't care about the making of and music. Realistically, if you're fitting it on 2 CDs, that's only a couple of hours of audio, so a couple of quid is what I'd consider an impulse buy. Any more, I'd be swithering.

And it's very valuable that I know these things, so thank you for your input there. I'll take all opinions on "worth" of the project seriously. :)

I voted for the download, but I too would be only interested in the actual story, if that option was available. However $12 seems fair for a production like this with cast and crew to pay.

I have fond memories of Hawk the Slayer, its brilliant (Terrible, but brilliant). I was bought the book one Christmas and I loved it, read it every night in bed. Then I got to see the film. Yeah, cheezy delights in panavision. To be able to listen to it on the way to work would be smashing.

How exactly does one describe in the spoken word Ranulf's rapid fire crossbow, and Crow's machine gun like firing of his bow? ;)

    I'm curious :p

Not even taking the p*ss tbh the movie is complete sh*t, I know this, but it's one of my fave movies from when I was younger :))

We record the effects for Ranulf's repeating crossbow a few weeks ago. Sounded fantastic! :D We also did Crow's bow and will do some audio trickery with that one. :)
  • Depending on cash flow I would buy the whole lot :)
    So far, so meh :)

You do have to be a bit of a Dungeons & Dragons nut to enjoy it. It's basically a film of a purely classic, British, D&D Scenario. :D
  • As I said, its so bad its brilliant. That and my misty eyed nostalgia chip kicking in. Can still sit and watch it on a bored rainy day. Out of interest Graz, what other productions have you been involved in? I only ever listen to audio dramas and stories when commuting cos all morning DJs are far to perky for my liking at that time of the morning and bore the crap out of me,. I've been doing this for the last 16 years and have got through quite a lot of stuff.

The last thing I did was a 4-part '80s style British Sci-Fi called, "Chiaroscuro." It's about killer snow and poisonous plants. :) (It's available from the Monument Microgames site until it gets its own home.)

Yep, commuting is a great time to get involved in this sort of thing. I do the same. :)

Sorry if it isn't what you wanted to hear. I wondered if it was just me, so I checked my thoughts with Mrs Ant. She's generally getting around 20 hours of audiobook for the lower prices you're quoting, so echoed my thoughts of a couple of quid for a couple of hours audio (and no, I hadn't pre-empted this by telling her how much I'd said).

    Good luck with it though.

Problem is, companies like Amazon who have a massive market can do things like their 1 audio credit for £7. And as customer we want things cheaper and cheaper. but think about it, the crew and cast need to get paid a reasonable wage. If we keep squeezing the prices for stuff it'll go like the supermarkets where 'we' suffer in the long term. In this case we will just end up with no Audios as no-one will want to do the job for minimum pay. I think paying 12~20 quid for something that entertains is a fair price. Do you buy DVD / Blurays? If you do I bet you pay the same amount for them, and they RRP for about 20~30 quid. Of course I know audios should be a bit cheaper as there is far less people involved.

Mice and Hawks don't really have the best relationships. There's a character called **** if that helps?
