Yeah I'm not digging that, there's supposedly gonna be a slightly more powered regular Switch coming soon as well…..I'm gonna wait it out before I buy a Switch now if they're gonna release a "PS4-Pro" equivalent of that machine now as well. Might as well get the top end version instead of suffering like I am with my PS4....So many games made with pro in mind, and it shows on the original hardware. Glad Sony haven't backed down yet, and allowed devs to to go pro exclusive, I really was expecting that to happen a year or 2 back, but it hasn't yet....But still give it time.

Also that ad is so f*cking cheesy it makes me want to stab my dick to bits with a pencil...

  • I also never understand their idea of releasing a Lite version of a console that is not really cheaper but has significantly less features. No motion control, no tv output and no Mario Party is really sad. Maybe it's an excuse to not reduce the price of the original Switch.

Other than the DS Lite, none of the Lite versions were worth buying, and this one isn't either. I'll be very likely to just skip this generation then.
  • Isn't it about £100 cheaper?

I worry this will become the standard model and devs stop making big full feature games.
  • edited July 2019
I wouldnt worry about it being £100 cheaper, next christmas the regular switch will (probably) have a price drop of £50 and then you are left with a lite console that does a lot less but not much cheaper than the regular one.

The Lite will become the model to develop for, though. Not a big deal if you ask me, cos I'm likely not be buying a Switch at all (at least not this year).

EDIT: What I did hear is that it's probably for kids who wants to play Sword and Shield, or Link's Awakening on the Swiitch but don't have a tv, separate controllers thats easy to lose, and it's smaller and cheaper. In that case this Nintendo PSP is probably nice enough, but a PSP is probably cheaper and you get to play emulated Spectrum games too. :P Or a DS Lite, even.

It must still have some motion control sensing if it's going to play games in 'portable mode'.

I think what it's missing is what most people don't even know is there. There's a fully functioning IR camera in the bottom end of the right-hand controller. It's what is looking for which key you press in the cardboard piano thing you can make, and the hex-bug like scutter-bot (that uses controller vibration and angled legs to move) can follow your hand or other heat source.

But this would have to be a hell of a lot cheaper than the regular Switch to make a difference.

Why? Loads of games don't use it or have options to disable it. The last thing you want when you're being bumped around in a car or bus is motion control throwing your aim off. Motion control. Is best used on a home system, not a portable.
  • If they're promising you can play ALL games that have historically stated they are playable in portable mode then they need to support ALL the control modes those games employ, even if only one requires it, like Breath of the Wild's roll-around puzzles.

I wondered who bought the only Wii-u sold? ;)

Meh! I don't get it. Having already spent 300 quid on a Switch, which is already a portable device, why would I spend more money on a second portable version?

But there's an option to turn off motion control in the game, so that can't be the only control option.

Does anybody know anything about this Switch Joycon drift issue? think mine has had it for a while now, was gonna buy some new joycons but not got round to it yet, thought they were knackered (over used playing zelda lol)
RGT85 posted today about Nintendo saying they will pay / fix the issue? and pay anybody who has had theirs repaired.
Is this a US only thing? or a worldwide thing?

mine seems to "drift" to the left, pretty awkward aiming, doing the medikits in fortnite, or navigating menus when it wants to scroll randomly. only seems to be the left one...i think?

  • Seems to be US only at the moment, though I can't see it staying that way. It's unusual, as Nintendo customer support for faulty kit is usually exceptional. My DS touch screen went a bit wonky and they sent me a courier box to return it to them and sent it back repaired at no cost within a matter of days, even though it was out of warranty. For out of warranty repairs, there were theoretical small and medium repair fees they'd warn you of in advance, should they choose to enforce it.

Yep for all a lot of Nintendo stuff kind of sucks from time to time, they rarely try to welch out of anything that is their fault. Try getting a faulty controller replaced by Sony. "How long have you had it", "What did you do right before it stopped working correctly", "Did you at any point throw, kick, punch, or bite the controller", "Was it a child who is not related to you by blood, or an in law based relationship that damaged the controller?", "What was the exact time of day you opened the box, or packaging containing your controller, did you happen to use scissors to cut away any excess plastic, could you have accidentally put the scissors 3 inches from anything on the controller that may possibly have been damaged by proxy?".....aaaaand so it goes on.

Nintendo's Customer Service is usually top notch, so long as you're not trying to replace a bricked Wii with pirated firmware on it :))

  • like i said mines been "drifting" to the left for months and months, maybe a year, but just never got round to buying another (too many records to buy lol) so just thought it was normal wear and tear, specially playing zelda from day one for well over a year, almost constantly, thought id wore it out lol

  • Never mind the Switch, it was only this month that I managed to Wii myself. I got a red one for $25 at a Thrift shop. I was surprised how limited it is in its graphical capabilities. However, that is probably due to the many crap games that were churned out by sausage factories as the Nintendo branded games look very good.

I'm not really sure tbh, it's been a while since I've played my Wii since it's actually broken. It suddenly just stopped accepting discs, well I say suddenly but I think my nephew broke it then played ignorant about it. There's a visible notch it the little bit of felt or whatever it is on the disc feeder that wasn't there when it was working, and he was the last one to use it. I think he pulled a disc out, or shoved one in instead of waiting for the feeder to do it's job.

    Little sod!
