A 90's Steven Segal film called The Glimmer Man, not his best to be honest.
Never liked the man at all. Doesn't he have an unsavoury reputation?

If you haven't watched the korean series 'Kingdom' on Netflix, stop doing anything and watch it.

A sort of zombies-vampires invasion in the 17th or 18th century Korea. Great plot. Amazing fight scenes. And zombies. Lot of zombies.

    Season two starts next week.

  • Although it's one of my favourite games of all time and an undoubted masterpiece in my mind I don't think the TV world needs another zombie apocalypse TV series. The zombies/clickers in TLOU are really just a narrative device, the game itself is an emotional roller coaster not because of them but because of the interaction with the characters and the shitty circumstances they constantly end up in. It worked in the videogame arena because it was one of the first times that type of emotion had been done - or at least done well enough to be as good as any movie/TV show.

That's been done plenty of times since George Romero invented it decades ago. The Walking Dead has done it for years and, in my opinion, that just devolved into a bore-a-thon. Van Helsing, which uses vampires rather than zombies in the apocalypse, is a far superior show to TWD, but doesn't get mentioned anywhere near as much.

  • I've just started season 3 of The Affair. Not bad.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • Just finished The Expanse season 4 and it was as great as always. Struggling to see where it goes from here other than inter-galactic war, which is kinda hinted at.

Van Helsing season 4 (finished yesterday) was also really good, the best season so far. The episode towards the end with the archery team at the beginnings of the outbreak was fucking awesome. I almost turned it off at the start, thinking it would be 40 mins of teen-angst crap, but it turned into one of the best TV episodes I've ever seen. Some of the continuity camera work, FX and acting is astonishing. Pity it went a bit lame after, in the last two episodes.

Watched the second season of Kingdom. Great as expected. Again, recommended.

Later I watched Black Summer, another zombie-apocalypse series, not bad.

But I think apocalypse-themed series is enough for now (for obvious reeasons!), so now watching Smokey and the Bandit, always great to watch.

  • Watching the first episode of Star Trek Discovery, not sure yet. Great special effects.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • Having missed almost all of the Marvel Universe movies over the last 10+ years I'm going through them in release date order on Disney +. Pleasantly surprised so far - I didn't think they'd be awful by any means, but I didn't imagine I'd enjoy them quite this much. Up to 2013 and just finished Iron Man 3 which I thought was very good.

Bit narked that Logan and Deadpool 2 aren't on
D+ as I was looking forward to those two the most. Because they're classified with a higher age rating apparently.
  • Watched 2 episodes of Star Trek Discovery then deleted it, what a pile of shite.
I should have known it wasn't popular, starting on E4 which is a fairly minor channel at 9pm then halfway through the run being shunted to 11pm or later, obviously wasn't getting the viewing figures. Wonder if Picard is any better?

Yep, Star Trek Discovery has made a mess of Star Trek, thank feck for Picard (although that is not perfect tbh)
    So far, so meh :)
  • Picard is fairly awful, Discovery is much better imo.
  • Hasn't been a decent Star Trek programme since Voyager. Didn't get into Enterprise.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • I think Enterprise is the best of the lot, plus DS9. Interesting mix of characters and the whole time war idea was a good one too but the writing is very varied, a few crap episodes, a majority of mediocre ones and a few stand outs - in the first series. Now I'm into the second series and its tightening up, much better than the first so far. Last night we watched the robot repair space station one that repairs the entire vessel and personnel and seems too good to be true - it is! A brilliant idea though and the effects were pretty convincing. In my opinion Capt. Archer is the man I'd choose for the job over Picard, Kirk, Janeway et al. He's Kirk without the lover boy egotism but my only question is why oh why would T'Pol go for the Chief Engineer over Archer? It happens later in the 3rd series I think.

  • For me Amazon Prime is absolutely the best and they've done it again! Got all of the Gerry Anderson shows which I always enjoyed, even Joe 90! Being a model maker and effects fan I can ignore the lame stories - most aren't - and just get off on watching how its done. Spent over a year myself trying to make a marionette that would walk properly...

Anyway I'm now watching for the first time, the new Captain Scarlet and I'm amazed at how good it is in every way. Anyone else like it? Its like a good comic book brought to life, far better than the visuals of animation that tries to look realistic, which I have never liked. All jolly good stuff, hair movement, texturing and all the rest of it but its too smooth and to my mind loses out because of it.
  • Captain Scarlet, and Terrahawks were my faves of those type of shows, I always thought Thunderbirds was a bit overrated, seemed like they did exactly the same thing every week, and the reuse of animations, and sequences were more blatant in that show than any of the others.

Never got on with Stingray too much either, but I did have a soft spot for Fireball XL5....Even though that one was considerably before my time :))
    Every night is curry night!
    Thanked by 1mik3d3nch
  • Thanks for replying mate! I'm glad I am not alone in appreciating these shows, in a way the Thunderbirds shows probably influenced me in coming over here. Those were the days when Americans were the Good Guys.
  • I've just joined up to arrow video on Amazon prime for a 30 day free trial.
just watched boondock saints and the exterminator. Got Dave makes a maze lined up next, sounds interesting and weird.
loads of horror and gore films on it.

"Here they come... Launch Angel two"

    "No Colonel, let me go"

    "Thankyou Captain, thankyou"

    ;-)

You have got me watching this again, haha - Captain Scarlett I only ever remember it being on about 5.00 pm on weekdays, they never had time in weekday kids TV for an episode of Thunderbirds.

I remember a show called Starfleet, or something like that for a while on Saturdays mornings - was a bit like Transformers (or did that come after?) - had this ship that could disassemble and reassemble as a robot called Die-X or something like that - the series had a running storyline which was pretty good - that was probably my favorite , but I cannot remember if it was a Gerry Anderson production or not? It might have been a joint japanise-american production??? It had that look about it that unless your were really into watching it, it looked impossible to figure out what was going on and what it was all about :))
