So while all along I thought the world and the media have been putting to much faith in China's version of events. It seems there is a theory that the Corona Virus escaped from a partly US funded Wuhan lab (Wuhan Institute of Virology ) that was studying the corona virus in bats. Diplomatic cables suggest US scientists had concerns about the security of the lab with respect to its adherence to the Bio Safety Level (BSL) standards appropriate for the work carried out there.
If true, it could explain why China were trying to suppress one doctor's early warnings about the virus. It might (very might though) add credence to my assertion that the virus was spreading much earlier than is popularly believed. This would account for the unusually high number of unusually potent seasonal pneumonias globally this winter that medical professionals are anecdotally reporting. This is what I believe me and my colleagues caught at an event this winter which seemed like an usually powerful and drawn-out two stage flu and dry chesty cough that you just could not seem to shake (9 weeks from first symptoms in early December until the last in late January).
As much as many here would not like to admit, Donald Trump and his advisors have been recognizing the WHO's bias towards China and using this as an excuse to withhold funding. It may seem far fetched, but was someone paid to toe the line, as right wing US media is hinting. It does explain the whole anti Taiwan stance of WHO.

Were any of the safety concerns acted on in the meantime is a question that I suppose needs to be answered.
If some are thinking the current epidemic was from an attenuated strain that had been engineered, some research I posted up the thread suggest those strains have weaker potential to infect than a strain that arises in nature, that is to say they usually are less contagious.
However there has already been outbreaks of SARS related strains in China from other labs in the past and study of SARS apparently hasn't always required a BSL 4 lab. I suppose the thing has tended to be something many people haven't wanted to think too much about until now. On the positive one could look at it as at least SARS now is being studied in higher level biosafety environment than before, however that is provided of course the BSL 4 standards were being maintained which seems to be the question at the moment. According to some reports however some of the research on bats was being done at a BSL 2 level.
The Wuhan BSL 4 facility was intended to be a WHO reference laboratory, the 2003 SARS outbreak gave momentum to its development. If it was not a WHO reference lab. then I suppose the issue of being sure what is going on comes up - if its being run jointly with the WHO then at least they have access and some knowledge of what is going on? I hadn't known the US also had funded it. But if it comes to the point China are going to build this sort of lab, because they see us building so many - then maybe it is better the WHO and other countries have an investment in it if in exchange they can have some sort of diplomatic mission in it also?
In Europe and the US there have been nearly a dozen of these maximum security labs built over the last twenty years, we have built more than we needed - and so what can be expected will happen when there is an excess of these being built - might the Chinese be wondering the reason we have so many of them and might they also want to be a player and have their own?

Sadly Boozy, your statement about people realising who counts is only partially true. Sadly the common man is still praising these celebs. I mean, look at them, they are so wonderful, taking the time to hold a concert in their own homes, how wonderful. They are doing it because they care about us, not because they crave the limelight so much they will do anything to stay relevant. (I'm excusing lasts night wifi / living room / thingy, that did get a lot of money out of business. But why do we need a celeb to get that moving? That is another story.) And all those stars sending us messages from their humble London homes, telling us to stay in and stay safe. Why go out, when you can relax in your half an acre garden and sunbathe. Surely you must all do that here?

For example Jamie Oliver wants to totally ban fast food shops and already contributed to the 'sugar tax' and as a result of all soda is full of cancer causing aspartame and tastes **** (think i posted a thread about that a while back), he's now on a campaign to promote breastfeeding! I just went outside today, lots of children playing outside. Also lots of other people walking around too.
We don't have a 'real' lockdown but I do see many youngsters grouping together again.
I don't think it's a big deal but it will help more if we had more masks and other gear.

Same in Germany, and dare I actually mention it, I guess I can because it's not racist but simply an observation: most of the youngsters I see here bunching up are muslims. Go all PC on me if you like, but most major cities in Germany already have a steadily rising foreign population so whenever I see a group of youngsters, that group is usually not comprised of people who you'd identify as Fritz, Hans and Franz. It's simply what I'm observing every day. A few days ago, chancellor Merkel made an official statement about changes in the measures to be taken. At that time I was randomly browsing YouTube videos when a live stream of this statement was recommended to me, so I clicked on it. Turned out to be hosted by bild.de, a horrible tabloid not unlike the Daily Mail in the UK, so the live chat on the right-hand side of the screen was going at a mad rate, like 5 or 4 messages per second. A vast number of messages was easily identifiable to be from the clientele I described, most in that slightly erratic pidgin German saying "come on open shisha bars" as well as containing insulting turkish/arabic swear words aimed at Merkel, it was ridiculous.

You may be pleased to know I have never heard of Gal Gadot, neither do I intend to do a search, so please for goodness sake no one inform me, for I reckon my miss is usually my mercy when I have't heard of some "celeb".

I'd nearly bet the peak of coronavirus infection is past now in many countries and the poor folks dying over the last couple of days caught it weeks ago.
I'm despaired. Where I live is prime fruit berry country. Well. there was nobody to pick the berry and so the farmers been on social media asking locals to come and pick them, pulling out all the stops like we need to feed the country and blitz spirit. They even advertised in job centre..and I can't ever remember seeing that. Well, the locals were like..oh yeah, well we've not been welcome form like 15 years now, since all eastern euros arrived. They say..I used to top the veg and pick the berries all my life until.. and dozens of students were writing..I asked you every year for the past 4 years and you turn us away. local gypsy were moaning too. Very much anger about it. So, some people said ok..but pay us piece work like the old days..and the farmers said no, it's min wage...but remember the blitz spirit! Well, the folks said ok then..so lot of people signed up. Then, farmer put out a new notice.."we only want people under 20 and can only pay 6.50 p/h min wage"..and folks wee like !!!!!!!!...but then further development..I were in town on Saturday and suddenly 200 eastern Europeans have appeared out of nowhere. All milling about in groups of twenty or more. This bunch looked REALLY rough, like a bunch of criminals to me. there was some romani dripping with gold. Anyhoo..they were bumping into people, trying to pick pockets, and mobbing about in shops. Then police were called..and three of them got arrested for shoplifting. Then locals said..they are not wanted for the jobs now.
So..how did they get here all a sudden. I am kinda mad about it. So much for lockdown..so much for virus..a lot of bloody crap. My scarf isn't wrapped around my face now..I feel like not giving a crap. So much for solidarity. It's all a bloody lot of nonsense is what I feel like. Don't tell me locals don't want to do this type of work..they bloody well do..and where I live is a poor town with sky high poverty and drugs. A lot of bloody crap...lockdown my ass.
Didn't you see the news, farmers have been allowed to ship people in from abroad, for manual labour. Of course the news didn't mention whether the locals were allowed to volunteer / offered jobs etc.
I heard Ryanair had chartered a flight to pick up 187 people from Eastern Europe to work on a potato farm in Southern Ireland with absolutely no regard for social distancing. The cabin crew were worried about being infected but were told they would be sacked if the didn't work.

Too much being dictated too at times, misgovernment etc. - to be honest I have been aware of it for a while now - makes me feel like despairing too sometimes. Half of them are legal sex offenders, and even more of them are probably peados, every now and then one gets brought to light, and made an example of, but it's always people who've slipped from the A-List, or haven't been around for a while, and while they're getting dragged through the courts, and being made an example of, the "Good Guys" are doing the same sh*t behind the scenes, over, and over again.
This virus has f*cked the planet up no end, but in hindsight it has made people realise who is important in life, and that's real friends, and family, and people you actually know, not a bunch of pedestal standing degenerates, who have actually always been irrelevant. pity it takes an almost planet wide crisis for most people to realise they don't need, and actually never have needed these phony hypocrites to function in their every day lives.
Or maybe I'm a blinkered oddball who thinks Hero Worship should be awarded to actual Heroes, not pretend heroes who take a 6 or 7 figure paycheck then tell everyone "beneath" them how they should live their lives...
To be honest I value the lives, and friendships of people on here more than any f*cking dickhead who's had a camera pointed at them for stupid amounts of money! Why I hear you say? because we're all "real people" for want of a better description...maybe? Yup I may p*ss people off on here from time to time, they may p*ss me off, but at the end of the day we're an actual community, and even though I may never be best mates with somebody on here who rubs me up the wrong way, and vice versa, I'm at least safe in the knowledge that even if mine, or their opinions are completely batshit crazy, wrong, irrelevant, mental, etc....There's a degree of respect for human life at least, and we're all on the same page in the long run.....and at the end of the day we're not really going to tell each other how to live our lives......Well OK there's been a few like that over the last year or so, but you get what I mean :))
Every human being (witness) will see or hear something (slightly) different or remember it differently, and what you think you may have seen/heard may not have happened (‘cuz that’s how magic tricks work)...

Anyhoo..I gotta admit this lockdown is getting to me. I almost got slightly irked the other day..by 'someone'..Saunan takana on tilaa.. ..but yes, fine bunch of people on here..you're all swell.
Is this lockdown getting to anyone else?.. Even though I am not alone..it's starting to grind my gears pretty bad and I admit to have been no stranger to solitude standing at times in life..but this is different.. I drank a whole bottle of Jäger over the last week..and I hardly ever drink.
I'm **** sick of celebs preaching to us and telling us what to eat, drink, watch and think. For example Jamie Oliver wants to totally ban fast food shops and already contributed to the 'sugar tax' and as a result of all soda is full of cancer causing aspartame and tastes **** (think i posted a thread about that a while back), he's now on a campaign to promote breastfeeding! Get a **** grip - you are making yourself look like a twat!
We don't have a 'real' lockdown but I do see many youngsters grouping together again.
I don't think it's a big deal but it will help more if we had more masks and other gear.
Over here it's finally revealed that many many people died in elderly caring homes. Because all the precautions were applied to the ICs but other places never got any protection gear.

Same in Germany, and dare I actually mention it, I guess I can because it's not racist but simply an observation: most of the youngsters I see here bunching up are muslims. Go all PC on me if you like, but most major cities in Germany already have a steadily rising foreign population so whenever I see a group of youngsters, that group is usually not comprised of people who you'd identify as Fritz, Hans and Franz. It's simply what I'm observing every day. And many of them seem to have this kind of mindset where they think "well you know what, f*ck you krauts, we don't care about your rules, this country will be ours in a few generations anyway, get used to it".
A few days ago, chancellor Merkel made an official statement about changes in the measures to be taken. At that time I was randomly browsing YouTube videos when a live stream of this statement was recommended to me, so I clicked on it. Turned out to be hosted by bild.de, a horrible tabloid not unlike the Daily Mail in the UK, so the live chat on the right-hand side of the screen was going at a mad rate, like 5 or 4 messages per second. A vast number of messages was easily identifiable to be from the clientele I described, most in that slightly erratic pidgin German saying "come on open shisha bars" as well as containing insulting turkish/arabic swear words aimed at Merkel, it was ridiculous.

Vacuous celebrity self promotion is one thing, but by far the worst is the endless repetition of pseudo scientific bollocks conspiracy theory nonsense that plagues the internet.
Yeah sounds worlds away from opera singer Andrea Bocelli singing to an empty square outside Duomo Cathedral in Milan over Easter.

Wow, Mr Boozefreak, I find myself agreeing with nearly everything you said here :-O . I agree with how vapid and shallow the celeb scene often is. You may be pleased to know I have never heard of Gal Gadot, neither do I intend to do a search, so please for goodness sake no one inform me, for I reckon my miss is usually my mercy when I have't heard of some "celeb".
All some want nowadays is to recapture the feeling or mood of Live Aid over again, not quite understanding that that is not the same as the spirit of Live Aid which they cannot quite recapture. I cannot stand Oprah and her new ager cronies either.

Did any of the prisons let people out for the lockdown? I heard talk in come countries governments were thinking of letting out some minor cases - bit of a dumb idea unless they have somewhere to go.
