The other side of this issue is with the hysteria that can accompany an epidemic. The News Media outlets need to get their house in order also as to how they report - unbalanced coverage and sensationalism can be just as dangerous as anything Trump said about disinfectant.
Let me come at it another way - to what extent have TV News outlets generated a climate of hysteria over this coronavirus - could the public have been made aware the current epidemic in a manner that didn't generate such panic, with more balanced coverage perhaps?
I think you are forgetting how many newspapers in the past ran sensationalist stories.
Rolling TV news channels have been around for many, many years now.
This issue is not new.
If anything, user generated content (social media) is just as bad.
Yes, the media should be more responsible, but shocking and sensationalist stories are what attracts readers / viewers / listeners. And I don’t see how it can be policed without throwing free speech out the window.
Also, regardless of what you or I think is the true picture, the fact is that many, many thousands of people have been badly affected by this COVID19 Corona virus. So generally I suspect a lot of those that have been affected would want maximum meda coverage with lots of warnings so that others take notice.
Yesterday’s official figure of total deaths in the U.K. to date was 26097. This only includes people who were tested and found to have COVID19 Corona virus or COVID19 Corona virus is listed on the death certificate. Some deaths where COVID19 Corona virus is not listed, may actually also be due to COVID19 Corona virus.
On the surface of course the main issue is that Trump needs when possible to run things he is thinking of saying by wise heads beforehand, and refrain from speaking on issues were he is out of his depth - and learn how to handle the media better, now what if he improves in that regard?
Why are the media so hostile, is that hostility helping the current states of affairs, and how should leaders handle a hostile media and journalists a few of whom may be activists with an agenda? Also I think some journalists seem to be oblivious to the difficulties of political office, and handling an epidemic - such as having to make decisions with less than perfect information.
It is the job of reporters and journalists to ask awkward questions. That’s free speech. That’s part of the system for holding governments to account. Trump does not like it when such questions make him or his administration look bad.
So if you are being effectively called a lier (Trump’s response is often to tell a reporter or journalist that they are fake news), it’s always going to get a bit heated.
Go back and watch some media briefings made by presidents prior to Trump being elected. Then contrast and compare.

Professor Detlef Krüger, the direct predecessor of the well-known German virologist Christian Drosten at the Charité Clinic in Berlin, explains in a recent interview that Covid19 is „in many respects comparable to the flu“ and „no more dangerous than certain variants of the flu virus“. Professor Krüger considers the „mouth and nose protection discovered by politicians“ to be „actionism“ and a potential „germ-slinger“. At the same time he warns of „massive collateral damage“ caused by the measures taken.
One aspect of a COVID19 Corona virus infection is serious breathing difficulties. Have you ever had serious breathing difficulties? Do you think Professor Detlef Krüger has ever had serious breathing difficulties? Do you think that people who get the “flu” have had serious breathing difficulties?
I have not had COVID19 Corona virus, but being an asthmatic, I do know very well what it feels like to fight for every breath, each time thinking that it could be your last, as you struggle to get enough oxygen. And I don’t mean after exercise, I mean for hours on end when you are just sitting or lying still. I have had the flu, and did not suffer with such bad breathing problems.
Has anyone else here had the flu? Did you have to fight for each breath for hours and hours?
From what I can see, the Swiss Propaganda Research is just as bad as various other web sites that pedal alternative points of view as “facts”. Let’s look at who is behind the Swiss Propaganda Research. Their about us page is here. Oh look, they don’t say... So much for being open and honest.
I’m not saying don’t look at a wide variety of news sites and other information. But everyone has to keep in mind that there are countless points of view and countless opinions out there. Some certainly have vested interests behind them. It’s very hard to tell if an “independent” is really independent. Where undisputed facts are not available, various so called “facts” get pushed. And various vested interests will try to push the agenda. Look at how many companies and organisations (including Trump) have tried to push as much disinformation out as possible about climate change, for example.

Sometimes I suspect I'm being politely tolerated as the odd man out - well thats been the story of my life, I always have ploughed a lonely furrow and the age difference doesnt help either as many of my personal favourite hot topics are 'meh?' to most of the people here.
As a fellow oldie I feel your pain too Mike.
Having said that Mrs Moggy is the youngest 70 something I know,(all jeans, baseball cap and t-shirt) no beige slacks for her and her net surfing abilities bely her age somewhat.
I too was once a British iron rider like yourself (trumpets and oilfields mainly)and have interests beyond what's the norm for here and as for game playing forget it, I bought my spectrum for computing and much fun it has given me.
But I like the gentle burble of this forum and love reading the technical posts and feel that how ever little I contribute I'm still welcome.
Thanks Fred! Old rockers never die do they? With me the Brit iron was Beezers and a Royal Enfield Super Meteor 700cc one of the best and most under rated bikes of that era.
I was a combo man, also rode them solo and liked it but well if you take long rides on an ancient Beezer you need to carry your tools and a few spares if you hope to ever arrive at your destination! I've done more roadside repairs than I care to recall, usually at night, on some remote B road in the pouring rain which is when bikes prefer to break down.
Combos are also enormous fun, not the slugs many take them for and best of all your chances of surviving a crash are 100% better because they're so damn strong with all that bracing and heavy triangulated frame connections. You can whale into a tight bend drifting like a go kart and they're almost as good as a Jeep on rough ground.
My last bike was the best by far, a 1500cc Kawasaki Vulcan Classic the cruiser that thinks its a sport bike and can give any sport bike a run for its money. The most incredible torque, you could pull up trees on tickover, I am hardly overstating their power. I used it attached to a Velorex sidecar which it hardly noticed and best of all was solo because not only was it fast but stable and with excellent handling to boot. Get a ride on one if you can they are that good.
I completely agree with your last sentence. Thanks for the greeting and same to you from the two of us. Mike
The Meteor was a Bonnie eater as I recall.
Never had much truck with chairs/combos call them what you will but I have to admit they served a useful purpose for skint families transport wise till the three pin plugs replaced them.
My last bike was a Honda 400-4 which, after throwing it down a local by-pass, brought my biking days to a close.
Anyhow I'm dragging this thread off topic so apologies everyone and look after yourselves everybody.
I think i may have the virus - i have totally lost all sense of taste and smell although otherwise feel fine.
Need to find a way to get tested but the nearest testing centre is Glasgow Airport

No, apparently you are forced to drive 30 miles or so to a old castle to check your eyesight...

Good that you're in the clear, but yeah here Americans are allergic to everything, like I seriously do not understand how so many people can be allergic to so many things.
Everyone is panicking that they're sick, only to find out it's hayfever, or house dust, or sunlight reflecting off the pavement and making them sneeze....
My wifes fam do have some genuine dangerous allergies though, my sister-in-law is allergic to tree nuts, one of my nephews is allergic to peanuts, both of these are one of those situations where if they come into contact with the allergen they have to stab themselves with an epi-pen, and possibly still go to hospital afterwards (Just so people realise I'm not just taking the p*ss out of Americans being, or thinking they're allergic to everything.....I say thinking because a lot of people here seem to like to self-diagnose without any medical intervention at all, because they're that smart and confident in their instincts, or what they've read online :)) )...
False alarm - i've been tested as negative - they reckon it's my hayfever!
Good news ZX me old mate. Go snort some decongestant that'll sort you out. ;)
One study showed food allergens to be regional based on common diets. US & UK tends to be nuts & milk (as a majority), Scandinavia tends to be fish & milk whereas the east have more allergies for soy and rice. Its all down to the most food we eat as a country / region. Of course this is changing in the modern world.
"I should use simulator loosely 'cos I don't think it's quite like this on the beach with helicopters and fires and the jumping beach buggy" - paulisthebest3uk 2020.
"Following the science" apparently means ignoring it to create a pointless five-level alert system where we are never at a precise level, and then shouting about "keeping the R down". Then four weeks later when the R is going back up and there are still thousands of new cases a day, relaxing lockdown and telling the vulnerable people they can go back out...
We're supposed to be happy that Nando's are re-opening and horse racing will be under way again. I'll be happy when I don't have to risk infecting my friends and family, thank you.
People need spicy chicken, although strangely enough there’s no Nando’s here in the US, but you can buy bottles of their sauce, which actually is a bit naff tbh.
The large corporate b'stards strike again. Right in the heart of the pandemic our company has decided to do another round of redundancies. We've lost two mates from our team due to this heartless decision. What a great time to do that to your workers. And it was totally out of the blue. They've tactfully kept the number of people down so that less rules apply. We was given no warning this year, our L2 manager got a phone call yesterday and had to tell the guys today. He must feel pretty gutted, has he's a great manager and very supportive but this sort of thing is far out of his hands and is just the messenger. We were all shocked, as you can imagine. And to add insult to injury, we are all working from home so it all had to be done over camera and not face to face. Almost as bad as the text sacking some companies have done in the past.
The rest of us have been told we are safe, which is a small mercy personally and I did feel some guilty relief as until today I didn't realise how wound up I am due all of what is going on and my stress levels shot up this afternoon, I was shaking during the meeting. Madness.
Holy sh*t! Does that mean I rank higher than Polo?
I'm sure I've gotten a few coherent answers from you over the years that weren't all loaded with direct insults, or less than subtle backhanded ones :))

And there are currently no figures available for the number of people who have been affected. So is this a big story? Yes of course it is.
