What happened to '8-Bit Beat 'em up/Fighter Dev Comp 2020' ?

Had this one in my bookmarks but forgot to keep track of any developments:

https://itch.io/jam/8-bit-beat-em-upfighter-dev-comp

I suspect because of the mess going on in the world at the same time of the competition it became impossible do anything.

Too bad, the subject was most interesting and I was hoping to see some good games.

So yes, there are no entries for that, probably because not many people knew about it.

I think it's a bit unlucky that they were very unknown and the virus didn't help at all.

On the other hand, a contest like MSXDev that ended in July had almost 30 entries, but that one was more well known, and they had much better prizes too. (Yes, I missed that compo either. Too busy with life lately.)

PS. The fact that everyone can create random jams on itch is a nice idea, but if you're not well known then it won't work. I'd like to create a new Spectrum like game jam too but someone already claimed that idea and didnt do anything in years.

  • Last I heard there were some entries potentially in development, but I have not heard anything from Bitmap Soft on extending the deadline.
  • To qualify as a "jam", does everything have to be hosted on itch.io and is it open exclusively to other people with an itch.io account?

    You know, just in case...

The thought had occurred to me but I also have not found any information on that.

Maybe next year we'll see something. :|
