  • I recently watched a documentary about George Michael, he became very unhappy in the last few years of his life and was drinking heavily, taking drugs and not making any music. Was a shame what happened to him.

Well pretty much after he got caught cottaging he became a laughing stock, but managed to come back from it quite quickly. I remember after that he released a song where he was dressed as a cop in a public toilet, which I thought was pretty funny. I'll give George his dues, he was very good at subtle "f*ck you's" to people who were messing with him. Problem was after all that he kept getting coked up, and drunk, and kept getting caught doing the same things, it was pretty obvious at that point the train wreck was just around the corner.

Weirdly enough there's a spot about 10 miles from where I live down by the riverfront, it's a nice spot, but it has a public toilet, a decent sized parking area, and a lot of bushes. Supposedly the cops for a while were often breaking up similar...erm....gatherings down there on the weekends.

  • I too gained a new admiration for George Michael after his Somebody To Love performance. And I truly do believe it was better than Freddie could have ever managed live. With the caveat that George was doing a one-off and could give it everything, whereas Freddie in the 80s used to hold back and deliberately didn't hit all the high notes when doing so many gigs over a tour. That Tribute Concert rehearsal footage, which I only saw more recently, really is spine-tingling though.

I actually ended up buying George's Listen Without Prejudice album in the 90s and although there are a couple of cheesy pop/soul/funk songs which don't really do anything for me, the rest is actually really good, with some stunning examples of his vocal ability.

  • Are they different tracks? The vocal is fine but the music is so manic in both it's just a blur of noise with the occasional riff audible.

  • On a similar note to the George Michael hating-80's-plastic-pop thing. Back then I couldn't stand Erasure, with all that keyboard pap.

Fast-forward to 2021 and I'm rather jealous that the missus and her mates are going to see them live in October.

Just got to console myself with the Shrewsbury Rocks concert in July. There's a number of old bands I've always wanted to see who are playing but Adam Ant... Can't. Bloody. Wait.

Again, I've never really been into Erasure. Don't mind a couple of songs, but I much prefer the stuff Vince Clarke did with Yazoo.

This is the album they released last year, not got around to listening to it until now. Not bad. Not bad at all.
  • Currently listening to a Spotify playlist someone on Twitter made of 200 songs from this century. I mostly went back to old music from 2000 onwards so it's nice to catch up on the stuff I missed.

Actually I didn't phrase that very well at all - what I meant was I stopped listening to new music around the year 2000 in favour of old music from the 70s and 80s.

But yes, music from the 2000s is now "old music" of course.

    In a similar vein!

I found this video by pure chance, and I'm glad I did, and I wasn't sure weither to put it here, or in the currently watching thread, but it's 5 hours of just the music vids from Beavis & Butthead :))

Mike judge must've been a Goth, or a 'Billy at heart, as the first 4 vids well just watch it! The first 2 are Reverend Horton Heat, and the 4th one is Bauhaus!!! The 3rd vid Safety dance....I remember that from when I was watching the shows, and I may vaguely remember the first vid.....But the others? not so sure?

EDIT: Well the 5th vid's The Cramps....so yeah....
