  • I've only made it 15 minutes in, and if I didn't have to go to bed I'd have watched the whole thing! I can safely say in that 15 minutes though I enjoyed what I saw way more than Star Trek NG.....Just wish I'd popped some acid or shrooms before I started watching :))

I only watched the first couple of minutes - freaky, especially when the crew member looks round at about 1.23. What episode was that from I wonder? Also the guy with the blonde hair @ about 0.23 - was that Khan's son from Star Trek II?

  • That was well spotted, that is indeed Merritt Butrick (great name) who played both Kirk's son and T'Jon in that TNG episode Symbiosis.
    Sod it!

  • That a really good video zx, I love this sort of stuff. Seems really odd when you see those times running at high frame rates. SHame about the blurring, at one point the tram going left to right look like it was running on the road as the lines were blurred out. I can see why they introduced highway codes. People are naturally sh*t driver when left to their own rules. And imagine just standing in the middle of the road in order to flag down a tram.
    Sod it!

  • In these videos there doesn't seem to be any lane system for cars and carts. It's basically a free for all. I saw a clip from London's Piccadilly in the late 1890's and the road is totally crammed with horses and carts, it looked lethal trying to cross, must have taken ages to get anywhere as it was congested as far as the eye could see.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • Yeah, the London congestion is nothing new. How can something be a problem for over 100 years and not be sorted by now?
    Sod it!

  • I always heard that englishmen are very respectful with old traditions like pubs, royal family and London congestion.
    I was there, too
An' you know what they said?
Well, some of it was true!

Most of the world still have it a lot worse than that. Took me a while to adjust to traffic / roads in Asia and in Africa.

I think you are mixing up Kirk's son which was indeed played by Merritt Butrick and Khan's son (Joachin) in the same film, who is killed during the battle between Enterprise and Reliant in the Mutara Nebula, and who Khan vows to avenge.

Thats great. That pace of life would be just right I think - anyone got a time machine?

So in those days what did they do about horse do-do? Did someone have to go around the streets with a wagon shovelling it up? I can't imagine people had giant pooper scoopers in those days.

  • Probably just left it, as I seem to remember many roads having horse crap on the side of them when I was younger, of course not many people ride horses through a built up area these days I'm sure, but as far as I know Horse poo is pretty harmless, although still not particularly pleasant. I rather see, smell, or step in horses shite than dogs :))

  • Horse crap was valuable back then, people use to collect it and sell it on to growers.
    Sod it!

  • That video is about a close to a Time Machine as I think we will ever get. Great restoration. Thanks for sharing.

You call that traffic? :-j This is what happens every day near where I live:

  • I like that San Francisco footage. I'm always amazed how civilized people look thanks to the elegant clothing. We may live in modern times but the way some people dress these days looks rather shocking.

Here's an upscaled 60fps video of the Wuppertal Suspension Monorail from 1902:

Sure, I use to say that were it possible to park on trees, my fellow citizens would do it! @-)
  • Parking on a roundabout! Whatever next? I would hate having anything to do with that road, just watching that video was almost making me have a panic attack! :))

I pass from there almost every day, and although it is not always as bad as in the video, at about 12-1.30 pm and 6.30-8.00 pm it gets pretty close to that! :))

I watched that and saw it is in Sheffield ... if I didn't know better that bloke is what I'd picture mel looks like. Well, I've seen some of his videos before (like where he goes to a place that got tons of bad ratings on Google), but they weren't in Sheffield.

Also, the rain ... yeah that's England alright.
