  • If you mean Studio Ghibli ... this guy eh?
  • Hecate..wow. You know your onions..and curries. Put it in the curry!

I'm more into Freyja..and she's got a chariot pulled by...err cats, Perhaps that's where I am going wrong. Hecate..hmmm, that's a thought. Put it in the curry!

Dunno about cat kings. I got dragged to see Cats in Blackpool...and it was the most boring 2 hours imaginable.

  • Don't play the new God of War games then, she's basically a scruffy hippy living in the forest, under a tree that's on the back of a giant tortoise, she's been trapped in Midgard by Odin, with no means of returning to Vanaheim, although her house has a window she can she her realm through. A delightfully cruel gift from the Allfather I'm sure...

Were Estate cars a status symbol? Hmm. Come to think, my friends parents were hippies and kept a Peugeot 505 estate for a decade. I suppose it's SUVs now. Can't see a bleeding thing around them..get's on my nerves!

I think it kind of went two ways with Estates. Those with new estates it was a status symbol for many.

However, I do remember those hippy types with the old Volvo and similar estates that would belch smoke. Definitely not a status symbol, well that is not if your going for prestige.

I can also remember a third type of car owner from the 90s. The company car owner who would go to great lengths to get it and ensure they got the Audi and not the Ford. Their driving style reflected very much that they were not paying for the servicing and had no concerns about longevity.

  • Oh..I never did consider them a status symbol..but I guess it makes sense.

Well forward to the 2000s..and everyone knows Audi drivers have the IQ of 42 fruit flies divided by the combined IQs of 26 PE teachers.

I recently developed an allergy to cats, my eyes would itch and constantly run then eventually the eyelids would swell up. My cousin has 2 cats, Mitzi and Murphy. Mitzi hates me and tries to bite or scratch me for no reason. Not sure why as i've never tormented her. Murphy just sits on my lap and purrs. I prefer dogs.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • I learned to drive in a Micra, or should I say failed to learn to drive in a Micra. The 80s one had a horrid gearbox with the distance that one needed to move the gear stick between gears uncomfortably large and clunky. I guess driving instructors liked them as they made driving unnecessarily hard and so they kept their learners longer. I eventually learned to drive in a Volkeswagen Polo, far nice car for the beginner.

  • I want to nominate New Year for this thread...or Hogmany in Scotland.

    Torchlight-Hogmanay-3.jpg

Wtf has happened to it..It was once a big night out of falling about and fighting later on...sometimes. Folks were out kissing each other and all night booze ups in folks houses. Sing-a-longs and Auld Lang Syne...now everyone is in bed by 10pm with the lights off in case someone comes to the door. It's the one night folks are sober! towns are largely dead...apart from very big towns perhaps..and show piece nonsense like Edinburg. Once 400K folk descended on Edinburg for a knees up..NOW..it's an expensive all ticket affair for tourists. There was more life in my tiny village in the 70s and 80s...than there is in some large towns. You went from house to house getting your first booze from you uncle and a puff on a cig..so everyone could have a laugh watching you choke. What ever happened to those good old days..It's boring and clandestine, organized and commercial. It's a shame. You got to be 40 or over to rememeber the fun...like big Bertl wandering about in -25C with no shirt on. Like your first sip of booze...your first puff on cig..everyone having REAL fun..not this sanitised crap you get now. Tis a shame!

Snap, i learned to drive in a micra ( in exctly the same colour as well ).

Even took my test in it at headington, oxford <smugface> which i passed first time </smugface>

The 3 point turn was a bit of an effort though as i recall, we didn't have power steering in them days.

Heh, it was meant as a reference to the spectacular "Skellige" area in The Witcher 3, which is indeed based on this kind of nordic place, very similar to the Shetland Islands or Norway.

Here's a great video showing the ambience of that part of the in-game world:

Funny you should say that, I took my test in Oxford as well at the Marston test center. Most of my test was around the estate between Headington and Marston (the one with the tower block) I forget its name. I passed first time too.

The K10 Micra (particularly in Red) was very popular with Driving instructors. Was your instructors name was George?

  • I nearly threw the gearbox out of the car on my instructors (Sisters' father-in-law) brand new Micro when I was learning. We came to a junction with good visibility at about 30 and slowing, he said "its all clear, change down and keep going". I shoved the car into 1st (instead of going down to 3rd) and it screamed, he screamed, we all screamed. Luckily it handled it and I shoved it into 3rd correctly and carried on.

Your right they were popular round here for driving instuctors, Neville from witney was mine.

I'd never really been to the headington/marston part of Oxford ( apart from the cricket grounds and Moris Motors Social Club ) until I learnt to drive there - there are some suprising things to see.

    A case in point :

  • I grew up near there, later moving to Kidlngton for childhood part 2, so I was mostly familiar with the area and its oddities.

That part of Oxford is very evocative for me, as its where all my earliest memories are, my blissful days before I was old enough to discover and experience the depressing realities of humanity. I was born in the John Radcliffe and have memories stretching far enough back that I can remember it and sever other long standing buildings in the area being completed.
