I learned to drive in a Micra.
    NISSANMicra3Doors-3140_2.jpg

Snap, i learned to drive in a micra ( in exctly the same colour as well ).

Even took my test in it at headington, oxford <smugface> which i passed first time </smugface>

The 3 point turn was a bit of an effort though as i recall, we didn't have power steering in them days.

Funny you should say that, I took my test in Oxford as well at the Marston test center. Most of my test was around the estate between Headington and Marston (the one with the tower block) I forget its name. I passed first time too.

The K10 Micra (particularly in Red) was very popular with Driving instructors. Was your instructors name was George?

Your right they were popular round here for driving instuctors, Neville from witney was mine.

I'd never really been to the headington/marston part of Oxford ( apart from the cricket grounds and Moris Motors Social Club ) until I learnt to drive there - there are some suprising things to see.

    A case in point :

I think that artwork and it's discussion has 'jumped the shark'. :))
    Sod it!

I vaguely remember Maximus or whatever it’s called. I think I may have had a Major Morgan, or maybe my cousin did?

Now I can’t remember the name of it but it was some kind of bad sounding piano, organ, or keyboard shaped like a rabbit I think. It had the most annoying demo sounds or jingles programmed into it, I seem to remember them all being completely out of tune. What was that thing?

I think I got one for Christmas in about 1982, and my ma ended up hating the thing so much she took the batteries out of it :))

Heh, it was meant as a reference to the spectacular "Skellige" area in The Witcher 3, which is indeed based on this kind of nordic place, very similar to the Shetland Islands or Norway.

Here's a great video showing the ambience of that part of the in-game world:

That was really cool. Based on Skellig Islands in Ireland it must be.. only, more dramatic. I'm so out of touch with all these games. It crossed my mind to ask for a hand crafted axe for xmas..so I could stand in some spot and look cool...or not.

Yeah. It's that up hellyaa thing they do in Shetland Islands.
    Been there, done that:

Part 1 is mainly roaming around Dunnottar Castle, which is also fantastic, but this was the main event.

Also, this was the last time I was on a plane, coming back from this event - almost nine years ago. You can cram a sock in your sour gob, Greta!

No unfortunately that’s not it, watched the vid anyway just to make sure I wasn’t just remembering it incorrectly, but that seems more like a baby toy, and potentially even more annoying than what I’m on about :))

The one I had was upright, as in the rabbits head was at the top, and I feel like it had a yellow jacket underneath with maybe paws on the side? The buttons or keys were on its body, and I think they were several different colours, maybe even with buttons of different shades playing variations of the same notes?

EDIT: OK it’s driving me mad now :))

I’ve tried searching rabbit piano, keyboard, organ. I’ve tried those searches with 80’s, fisher price, playskool, Mattel. I’ve tried it with synthesizer, and synth. Without thinking before I hit enter I searched for just rabbit toy, don’t do that if you’re at work, or the family is in the same room :))

I wasn't sure what age you were when you got it. There is a similiar toy in a upright shape, but its just basically the same idea.

Are you sure it was a rabbit? I don;t remember such a toy and could not find an example either. I did find an elephant.

Pretty sure it was a rabbit, but now I think back it may have been an off brand cheapo toy. Like something you pick up off the tat shelf in a supermarket. So searching with the typical toy maker names may not work. I think one other kid in my school at the time may have had one, but I’m not sure about that. I feel like I’ve seen one at someone else’s house before.

I’ve just gone through a page with 101 of these bloody type of toys on it, and it’s not on there. But the other rabbit and the elephant were.

I’m going to have to remember to search for this thing when I get in from work tonight, trying to find anything even slightly obscure using a phone is hopeless…

Oh I’ve only gone and found the rabbit thingy, god it’s even cheaper and crapper than I remember it. Can’t cut and paste the image from this stupid bloody phone though. I’ll post a pic when I get home from work.

Must be pretty rare though even doing an image search for it only brings up the same few images from the site I found it on.

OMG - how gullible and innocent we were back then!
Reminds me of an American Football game I played back around 1980 when visiting family in Canada:

It's literally 3x10 LEDs, but somehow it was a game of football with rich gameplay requiring deft skills and tactics! :D

OK this here is a prime example of how memory makes things better, this cheapo plasticy piece of crap is what I remember! My memory made it way better, that single row of multi-coloured buttons was at least 2 rows in my mind!

Either way I'm literally surprised I found it! There's only about 4 or 5 images of it online, all from the same site, after I found 1 random pic of it after I'd almost gave up, I found the site, and instantly did an image search for it. Only results are from that same site! Which describes it as a made in Taiwan Kawaii style organ....Basically meaning it's probably insane that I got it back in the day, as it literally is a cheap piece of tat :))

It's obviously not how I remember it exactly, but this 100% has to be it! It's got the upright pose, the paws on the side, and the yellow body at least. Yup it literally is a cheap tat shelf piece of shite, and it looks considerably more girly than I remember it, but it was now that I think of it possibly picked out by my ma's friends daughter for me either for my 4th birthday, or for Christmas 1982....Within a month of each other basically, so the timeline may be a little skewed.

Wonder if it's still available? The website it's on is selling it for $51.....and as sad as it sounds I'm literally tempted since it's the only place online that has anything about this thing on it....

Part of me does wonder if this is a cheap knock off, as the toy looks about right, but I'm sure the box was more colourful, and less generic looking. But then again it could be the exact toy repackaged by a company in a different country.

I remember my cousin getting the Shockwave Transformer in generic packaging months before it was released in the UK, and the one released under the official Transformer label was exactly the same as the one he got, like literally no difference, his even though it was called something like "Mega converto robot!" still had exactly the same paint job, moulding, and even the heat sensitive Decepticon sticker in the same place as the officially released toy...

This keyboard toy is still on sale, and I find it very disturbing. I wonder how many nightmares did it cause...

OTOH, this is a truly classic. Every kid wanted to have one...

Yes that is a bit disturbing - like something that should be in the weird dreams thread!

I had the Casiotone PT-30 - but never settled to learn how to play it (it was monophonic anyway) I sold it a few months after christmas, and bought an ORIC-1.

WE had a Casio CT-10 which also had that drum beat. It was essentially the same as the VL1 but with a more realistic keyboard and no LCD screen.

  • The PT-30 was pretty cool. I used to program the notes in and then use one key play to play the tune back.
