I just watched a hilarious video! I heard that Sony had folded and included "The Ghostbusters that doesn't exist" in the Box Set that's coming out......and they did....I was like No!
But! The silver lining the Box Set is exactly the same, there's easter eggs, and cast commentary, and something like a tribute to harold Ramis in there, the usual Box Set stuff.....You know how Ghostbusters 2016 is included? A free digital Download Code! :))
You know Sony may be a Megacorp, but I think I've just found respect for them after this! :))
Just found this odd little silent movie by pure chance. Supposedly it was released in France in 1905 with the name "Kitty Lunch", or at least that's how it translates into English. It got released in America in 1906 with the name Pussy's Breakfast.....I bet that wouldn't be allowed these days :))
Watching Season 2 of the Witcher, so far it's actually really good, probably better than season 1, but I'm only starting the 3rd episode, still plenty time to f*ck it up :))
But I don't think they will, Henry Caville is f*cking awesome as Geralt, and even with the slightly woke, and race swapped characters it works, I know Yenifer wasn't half Asian in the books or game, I know Fringilla wasn't black in the books or the games, but you know what, how this series dealt with the race swapping it feels right, like I know they did it just to kind of say look what we can do, but it doesn't feel fake, it doesn't feel like they did it for the complete and utter sake of doing it, it works, they did it right! They took time to place the race swapped characters into the roles correctly, it seems natural, I can give them mass kudos for that. Several of the none white characters in this series so far don't feel like they were stuffed in there for woke points, they work, they feel like they belong there, because they're well written.
I'm all for diversity in shows, and movies, and I actually feel this show has a good example of how it can work with an existing IP without doing it just for the sake of it...
I haven't watched any of the show, and I have only played Witcher 1 and 3, but she always was called Yennefer in 3. Yet whenever people mention them, like here and on a german retro forum I frequent, they've written Yenifer or Yennifer. Has she been renamed?

No. People are just writing what they hear her name as, since it's not written anywhere except the credits.
Well there is a little confusion with the names in general the bard's called Haskyir in the show, but Daffodil in the games....If anything I thought it'd be the other way round?
Some of the Jules Holland Hootenanny. As with everything this/ last year, it's not quite the same without the drunken crowd and the people dressed up. Hope this year (I know, we aid this last year) will be better for everyone here!
About to watch the last episode of season 2 of The Witcher....It has been very good so far, but once again it really feels like Geralt is on the back burner, with the story mainly revolving around Ciri, which is fair enough given her importance in the whole story. But even then, there's a heavy focus once again on Yennefer, but not as much as season 1. There is a large focus on Fringilla, and they're really starting to bring Triss into it as well.
These even though I sound like I'm complaining, aren't actually negative things, they have written the show well enough, that it doesn't matter that Geralt is once again kind of a buffoon. I hate to say it but maybe the writers of The Witcher have managed to balance Wokeness, with reality, and fan service to balance out what most people would moan about.
Either way speculation aside, it's been a very compelling watch so far, the only thing that makes me sad is it'll be another year or 2 til' it continues.
Plus side is I noticed while returning to viewing the Witcher a couple of nights back, Kobra Kai season 4 is also available, so I'll be heading there after the last episode of Witcher, if I'm not feeling like the land of nod is calling me...
Edit: well, one has to admit the naming of characters in the Witcher is confusing. His original Polish name from the books is Jaskier. I haven't read them, I only just learned this.
Take a look at the list of what he is called in different countries ... jeez, names seem to be all over the place. Even his German name isn't a direct translation of "Dandelion". Good thing I played the games in English.
Gawds... I'm older than Cliff Richard was there. They all look so young. My only question is how comes Paula Yates is on it...and everything back then.

Good posting Mel, I really enjoyed watching the '81 with the missus. Probably watch the other later.
Gonna play the old man grumble now; did you notice how straight to the point the quiz was? none of that long preamble or overly explain the rules like they do now. I feel something like the Hit List, spends 30% of the show explaining the bloody rules, where as that old show just go on with it made the show much more enjoyable. I also loved the chaotic nature created by the contenders, everyone was just having a bit of a laugh and not taking it all too seriously. Made it more fun.
Finished up Cobra kai Season 4.....Really looking forward to season 5! But I hope like Breaking Bad this will be the season to end all seasons.....I'm loving it! But I feel like if they drag it out more than another season it may make me start to resent the source material!
There's rumours going round that the cast want Will Smiths son, and Jackie Chan in there.....I'm feeling that's a complete lie.....At least I hope it is, it had f*ckin' better be!
Still cooking up some food, so I decided to watch Akira, the Japanese version obviously, the English dub is great for a laugh, because of how badly it's translated, and the fact that Kaneda is voiced by the same guy that did the voice for Leonardo in the original Turtles cartoon :))
But I love this film, it's a true work of art! The music is amazing! The animation is amazing! Katsuhiro Otomo oversaw his work to the point it shines timelessly! I just wish somebody had've been brave enough to make a movie or a series of his first true work Domu, that is one f*cked up manga, that's for sure! :))
I loaned my copy of it to a friend about 25 years ago, and never seen it since :(

Good wasn't it? I'm the same - hopefully next season will be the final one because I think that can cover just about everything that needs to be - really all that's left is bringing Terry Silver and Cobra Kai down. It's gonna be awesome to see how they do it with Chozen - his redemption arc last season was one of the best bits of the entire Karate Kid universe.
I wonder if Mike Barnes will make a return? Other than that girl from Karate Kid 3 I can't really think of anyone who hasn't yet reappeared. Oh, Hilary Swank. Maybe. Not that I've ever even seen that movie.

That can't be true can it? Wasn't even Karate anyway - it was Kung Fu. Fingers crossed this doesn't happen other than a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo. Actually, fingers crossed it doesn't happen period!
Re-watching The Lord of the Rings movies for the first time since my kids can properly appreciate it.
I'm a huge fan (of the books also), but my kids are of the age that they mostly remember the more recent Hobbit movies which are a bad example of how overblown and self-indulgent Peter Jackson has become since the early noughties.
At the time I was such a big fanboy, I probably spoiled myself when the LOTR movies were being produced. But seeing them again now, I can really see how landmark they were. Some of the green screen effects have aged a bit, but the sheer scope and audacity are breathtaking and clearly influential on many movies since.
I can honestly say they are the only movies I've watched in the last 20 years that really moved me and made me want to jump out of my seat in the same we we all remember as kids watching the blockbusters of the 70s and 80s!

I bought the Ultra-HD blurays in 2021 and other than a few things the FX really stand up well today - in fact most of them are still perfect. Moria still looks as good today as it did back then. Boggles my mind that Fellowship is now 20 years old.
I still think it's a crime that Andy Serkis didn't win the oscar for his portrayal of Gollum in Two Towers. IIRC there was dumb-ass rule about him not actually being on-screen even though the entire thing was motion-captured.

Yeah, as such a huge fanboy, I really ought to get the UHD versions of LOTR! After all, over the years I've bought like 4 different box set versions of the Star Wars movies, so I need to keep up with Rings too! All I need now is a 4K bluray player - I have the UHD TV, but not the player!
Good call about Andy Serkis! I was trying to explain to my family about how pivotal and pioneering he was in the movies. It's hard for them to understand what a huge leap forward for cinema he made with the motion-capture technology and his ultra-commited performance, but Gollum is such a crucial character that unless he was anything less than completely convincing on-screen, the movies just would not have worked. My kids love King Kong, Planet of the Apes, and everything else Serkis' pioneering efforts have gone on to create, which just seem like the norm now, but wouldn't have been possible without Gollum!
And the whole Oscars set up is just such a fúcking joke!
The only reason the 3rd movie broke the record for most Oscars ever was because by then the Academy had to finally acknowledge the huge popularity, commercial success and almost universal critical acclaim all the movies had got, but which the Academy had snubbed up till then! So that movie got all the cumulative Oscars, whereas really the 1st one was best!
I originally went on a bit of a rant in my reply about the 2002 and 2003 Academy Awards for Fellowship and Two Towers, but removed it :-) Couldn't agree more - it was obvious they didn't want a set of movies not filmed in the US to sweep the boards three times in a row - which they all deserved. Fellowship was by a country-mile the best movie of 2001 and, I agree, it's the best film in the trilogy.
Training Day and A Beautiful Mind beating Fellowship. Total crap.
Chicago (f***ing Chicago!!!!) beating Two Towers.
It was and still is a crock of **** - and it's a disgrace that neither McKellen nor Viggo won a best or supporting actor Oscar. As much as I like Denzel Washington giving him the best actor Oscar for Training Day was insanity. Might as well have given it to Mel Gibson for Lethal Weapon back in the 80s.
Oh, the Ultra-HD disks are amazing - visuals and audio (really recommend it with a pair of decent stereo headphones). They come with the theatrical and extended versions - the extended being over 2 disks - which shows how far they went with the quality. I would dearly have loved all of the extras that came with the original DVD extended editions. There's nothing - not even any commentaries, which is a shame.
@dm_boozefreek I was doing a bit of browsing today and did some research on the Cobra Kai cast. I already knew about Sam being quite a bit older than the character she portrays (she's 25 now) but she's got nothing on the guy playing Kyler - he's 31! He certainly doesn't look it!
Someone else pointed out that other than that scene in the locker room on Halloween in S1 - where they beat up Miguel - he gets his ass kicked every fight he's in :)) Might have to re-watch the entire lot to check that out! Can't beat watching Kyler getting a smack-down ;-)

Just finished it. Great final episode - Silver and Kreese ending was unexpected and theres a brilliant bit of fan service in the last five seconds.
