Eish! There's a word I have come to utterly detest. It's primarily used by Boomers who lament the demise of this kind of overtly effeminate, frou-frou claptrap.

When I reached secondary school it took me just over a year to shake off the "typical schoolboy writing" that had been imposed where I was before. And north of 30 years later, I can still write legibly... except that I can think faster than I can write, and sometimes get it wrong.
  • Well, actually, I got that word from an episode of Futurama, ..but gawds yeah, Cursive writing. when we did our geneology, couldn't get back far on account of either giant curly writings or rune like black marks. Mind you, I been told off loads over the years at work for for bad writing...it's not curly ,,it's just crap. I never thought of that... thinking quicker than the writing.. I guess that's me too, super fast...'cept crammed with grammatical errors..I can do it properly when I want though...but that takes concentration which is... terribly tiring lol.
I stole it off a space ship.

HEY BOOMER! Stop clogging up the NHS and drawing all the pension money. Swanning around in your expensive cars and going on those big holidays all because you worked hard in the 70s and survived the boom bust of the eighties whilst keeping us GenX fed, you think you run the world. :)) :)) :))

Wonder who won the handwriting contest? :))

I used to love handwriting exercises at school, but by the time I reached secondary school, it just became about getting stuff copied off the blackboard - the teacher would be filling the blackboard with questions and I knew he was going to say five minutes before the end of lesson to copy it all down as homework questions - I was a bit of a slow writer. Also remember another teacher would dictate material - and i'd get behind and just have to skip to were what he was saying. Some people have lovely consistent hand-writing, but there is no way I can write neatly and at speed.

Are you by any chance left handed? I am and was never taught to adapt, had to work it out myself. My hand writing was criticised by a couple of teachers. They never offered any advice. Like you I have to really concentrate to keep it neat. I pretty much have to use my art skills when writing.

I'm not, but I just found it hard to keep up with some teachers.

My favourite one of these ever was Richard Pryor doing a voice over to it in the movie Another You. It was the best part of the film really. It's Richard Pryor so the language is NSFW:

  • Was thinking about the days when you would hand a roll of film over at Boots to get your holiday snaps printed off. Sometimes you got 24 hour service. Kinda miss that, it's all very well taking instant photos on your phone but i like to have the physical media. Lasts longer and can't be deleted.
I remember some years ago i took some erm, slightly naughty photos of an ex on holiday. I forgot about them and before i looked at the photos my mum asked to look at them. She wasn't happy but luckily never told my dad who would have annihilated me :))

Haha! Reminds me of when I was about 15, maybe 16 I won a load of those instant cameras, so I used them to take pics of us while we were skateboarding. Turns out somewhere one of my mates had thought it was hilarious to take pics of his arse....and knob....

I guess he thought I'd never get them developed what with me not having much money back then, but I got them all developed at one point. Well no doubt back then the pharmacy/chemists where you got them developed had "Hand Checked" them all. Was wondering why the girl behind the counter was sniggering when she handed them over....So when I realised what was going on I showed them to all my other mates, and them threw them im his face and just said "well done"...He was f*ckin' mortified! :))

    Proper Punctuation.

Apart from full stops, things like semi-colons and commas I think people use less or incorrectly. For myself - I rarely use semi-colons - except perhaps for lists. And as for commas, I am, not, sure whether, I use them the right, way, sometimes! :-p

Also use of 1st, 2nd, 3rd in dates is not strictly necessary, but I still use them sometimes. But I have met people who didn't know what they meant.

  • It looks like the old style telephone handsets will be obsolete soon as by 2025 if you use a landline it has to be connected to the web. BT are upgrading the network. I'm going to ditch my landline soon as it never gets used much anymore and just keep my mobile.

Ya know. I looked into having internet only and no land line about 2 years ago... and it was flippin' more expensive than having the landline with internet. What gives!

Correct spelling does seem a problem, especially amongst some educators too I've found but the response seems to be as long as I'm understood who cares? .
