Wow. DM. I really loved that guy. Very captivating. For me watching, it wasn't like I was interested in steam and chimney stack demolitions. I just really enjoyed the feller talking. Like some survivor relic of victorian times. I were sad when he died. good post. Should have used him in a game for sure. Steam Tech Fred

He wasn't terribly old either - 66, but that probably a good innings for a steeplejack.
Just finished Space Force on Netflix (comedy starring Steve Carell and John Malkovich). Really enjoyed it, I think Steve Carell is great anyway, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I thought it might be Starship Troopers but it's set now, rather than in the future, and how they're setting up a new arm of the military.
I knew I was going to binge it from the first episode when Steve Carell started singing Kokomo:
I really enjoyed the first series, and I'm now gradually watching the second. I tend to watch these things weekly, as in the old days rather than binge. S02E01 was a bit slow and didn't have any of the great jokes, but hoping there will be a lot more sillyness, like the satellite and moon scenes.
The two seasons blurred into one for me as I binged the lot over three days. There's more character development in S2 so we get to know the supporting cast more and it's all the better for it. The interactions between Carell and Malkovich are still great.
Thoroughly enjoyed it so I might just binge it again whilst I'm waiting for Better Call Saul's final season.
Didn’t David Bowie do the soundtrack for that film?
I know it confused me a bit when I was a kid from how Mr and Mrs Bloggs were depicted I thought it was about WW2. It wasn’t til’ years later I watched an old video tape I had and it had the trailer for When the wind blows at the start of it. So I went on a mission to get hold of it so I could watch it again.
It’s really dark more so than a kid would ever pick up on, a bit like Watership Down, that’s messed up as well! Oh look at the little bunnies….clawing each other’s eyes out!
At school we were also shown Threads which traumatised half the class - including me! :))
I remember us talking about it to the teachers who had seen it on TV also. Some of them where half traumatised too. Either that or they'd just been marking homework. But I don't know that they showed it in any classes. Probably wiser to just let people watch it on TV if they want to. Yes let people watch it if they want, but it was seriously depressing - and in certain contexts it could be used as propaganda.
I remember a girl in the class who watched it had to leave during the scene when the firestorm hit.asked to leave the room. It was too much for her.
We were also shown another time a film that was clearly too adult for us as it contained a guy with his knob hanging out for an extended period of time and another scene with a nude girl in a bath. I can't remember what it was called but it was about a girl that lived in a cottage in the countryside. There had been a nuclear blast but she had been shielded by the nearby hills. This guy appears and they become friends but he goes mad with radiation poisoning and tries to kill her. W were only about 14 or 15 when this was shown. Nowadays the teacher would be sacked for showing that.
I remember the guys cheered when the nude girl appeared and the girls all giggled when the guy got his junk out :))
Yer kidding... No wonder yez all fooked up in this here UK.
About the age of 12 I was mad about rockets and ballistic missiles launchers. Not mad as such, but just interested in reading about them in a big way. I bought the first couple of issues of War Machine part work, and then we forgot to cancel it with our News Agent - until one day my mum and I were in and he said here are you copies, there was about 20 issues! :-S My mum was really upset at being forced to pay there and then, she wouldn't go back into the shop for years. I must have asked for a subscription at one point and not understood how it worked.

not the knob bit but the bit about the countryside sounds like Z for Zachariah (1984 play for today)

Love these sorts of videos. Thanks for sharing.
Always thought there could have been a computer game based on him.

showed at primary school... yer kidding..
I dont think todays kids could handle that! They'd need some safety corner to cry in.
