Ninja ?bug?

edited November 2005 in Games
Doing rzx of ?Ninja? but can?t finish it because to open the last secret room you need six idols to be collected.
They are scattered in the temple complex everytime at different places - well, this just sounds demanding, the task is not that difficult - I can collect them easy - but I can?t find the last one!!!
Everytime I start the game only five idols are to be found in the complex.
Then I walk through the whole complex again and again, kill some ninjas, thugs and bugs and bunnys or whatsoever but sixth idol still won?t appear.

Is this a bug which makes the game uncompleteable or am I doing anything wrong?

Here?s the map I made so far.. just the last secret room is missing because... all of this.

The map is complete now although I didn?t complete the game on Speccy - looks like this game belongs to the category of games which cannot be finished due to a programmer?s incompetency.

I had to use commodore?s version to finish the game... shame on people who converted this game to Speccy.

And blame the distributors who made the advertising story of the game to be more attractive? and better selling?
(Just guess it?d be more attractive for male players to rescue the princess...)
    Liers...
    No princess at all!

    This is the story...:
He walks alone: NINJA in the land of death. His timeless quest: to rescue
the Princess Di-Di. pearl of the Orient, who is a prisoner in the Palace
of Pearls. And he must gather idols she has dropped to prove his worth.

(Taken from WOS archive... well, but the same is written in the C64 game, hehe)

As you can see on the map I made, there is also snapshot of final =winning= screen where you have to return after getting the seventh idol.
You?re just collecting the idols back. That?s all.

yeah i discussed this quite a bit on this thread http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=4989&forum=2&start=25

I tried to complete it a few times but there is no getting that 6th idol.

crashing? :D that must be the same game! :)
just few moments ago I made two rzxs - first one ends with collecting 5 idols and bat around blindly...
second one is special because not 5 idols are in the game... just 4!!!
...and then the game resets after all.
I?ve sent this rzx files to Daren - if he dares (wins ;) ) he might publish them in the rzx archive - because this looks like the final ?solution? of the game.
what a wasted time for programmers making this ****.

(I?m little bit disappointed because I liked the game - it was first game I liked on pal?s atari, there were not many playable and nice games, and this is one of them)

I was disappointed to. The game itself would be okay in a budgety kind of way but its programmed so badly and cant be finished so it's worthless.

I loved this game when it came out. I still play it now in .tap form (or it could be Z80) and it's still bugged to bits and crashes randomly, but is still great fun while it lasts! (I've never managed to complete it either!)

at least we still believe there?s something in that game... ;)

I couldn?t sleep without seeing all the rooms so I completed the game on C64 .. and I didn?t resist to make the map again: so now I got two maps ready - ZX (without secret room) and C64 (complete one)

I didn?t expect ever in my life to have my thumbs up for other computers than Speccy...

There's a bug in the game alright and it's to do with interrupts becoming incorrectly enabled at ill-opportune moments.

This causes the memory to be overwritten whenever an interrupt occurs. This could actually be the cause of all those random crashes down the years :)

One such place where the memory gets overwritten is the data area that contains the locations (room numbers) of the six idols.

Almost immediately, one idol location is removed from the equation and if your progress is slow, another will fall too. This is why you can normally only find five idols but occasionally just four.

There are actually seven idols, the last one being collected when the secret room appears and the return journey to the shrine begins.

The fix for this game is :-

    Poke 58059,247: Poke 63753,247

These pokes must be entered *immediately* when the game menu appears ie. before defining keys etc.

You'll lose a few sound affects such as when moving between rooms but at least you can finish it :)

I also recommend to use the TAP as the TZX appears broken to me. When you enter the final secret room (especially if you don't fight the blokes in the room below) there is the distinct possibility of the game knackering up.

thank you, now there?s perfect rzx done :)
you?re right about the secret room being messed up - I?d to make more rzxs because it is not working everytime... just ocassionaly.
(for first time it drew absolutely different secret room and in different colours than it really is when it works)

btw: I?ve created .POK file where should I send it (to update the game file)- to Martijn?

    nice one Mr A.

How did Mastertronic ever let this one hit the shelves in this state?

I was only able to get five of the idols when playing the game on the CPC. The enemy were able to do something so the weapons didn't hurt them..

sometimes they can use blocks, instead throwing shurikens try to kick/punch or bash them with a sword.
this way it works on Speccy and C64, actually I don?t know anything about CPC version.
