Well, no one will be watching Batgirl..as it got pulled of course. Too woke. All of Glasgow was waiting to see if the months of disruption was worth it..they'll never know!
It's been quite strange the Marvel and Star Wars stuff under Disney.
Marvel TV - poor (Loki, Moon Knight) to just-about-average (Wandavision, Falcon & Winter Solider). The stuff Netflix did (Daredevil, Jessica Jones etc) is miles better.
Movies - good to very good.
Star Wars TV - good (Book of Boba) to very good (Kenobi, Clone Wars, Bad Batch) to outstanding (Mandalorian).
Movies - Sequel Trilogy, other than the first half of TFA which was great, have been utter crap. Spin-offs have been average.
I'm in the middle of watching Light And Magic on Disney which is about how ILM started, all the people that have been involved over the years. It's very interesting.
Interesting how different people's opinions can be, I really enjoyed Loki & Wandavision. Also thought Book of Boba Fett was quite poor.

You know it was probably going to be the biggest pile of shite in the known universe, and if it had have been released I probably wouldn’t have watched it…..but now it’s been denienced I want to see it just to know how crap it is.
Unless it’s a clever ploy to generate interest in it among people they know wouldn’t have watched it, then they’ll release it :-?

I agree, i dont watch all Marvel or star wars stuff, not seen most of the films, but watched wandavision and loved it, watched 1 episode of bobbar fett and couldnt be arsed with any more, Mandalorians been the highlight for me, mainly as it was like a western

I found the early Marvel TV series (except for Agents of Shield) boring and long winded. Each followed the same premise, lots of blah blah, character building, then hero uses powers once at end of story to save the day. At least the Disney stuff is varied and tries different story telling. I enjoyed Loki, even though a bit slow. Winter Soldier was a six episode film, with plenty of action and Hawkeye was a lot of fun. But they do seem to be getting more disney-cheezy as they go. The Disney effect is creeping in and agree they will be doing the thick and fast releases. I struggled with the others, but then again Ms Marvel is aimed at a younger viewer (fair enough) and Moonknight was interesting in story but slow.
The Mandalorian is probably the best out of all the sci-fi series on Disney, good writers and directors. I enjoyed Boba, but it was lacking something and had too many parallels with our modern age (Star Wars always avoided that) such as the biker gang. (Probably said this before). Same with Obi Wan, to much inserting of characters to fit the story and twisting of throw away lines from the original film. Not holding my breath for Andor, but it might surprise. The independent studios are still giving out the best sci-fi these days.

you can tell, the production values these days in the age of streaming arent big, not like back in the day, the stories, the effects etc dont look like films / shows of the past.
When youre doing like 20 films and series a year or whatever then you cant spend 20, 30,50, 90 million etc on each one, or spend a few years writing scrips, stories etc.
The first House of the dragons episode again looks far better made / looking than the new star wars, marvel ****

Sometimes a lower budget can help focus the minds on the story and direction. It's a fine balance. I felt the Expanse got it right, the production felt massive but it didn't lose the story telling (I've not read the books) and it was all very slick and kept me interested.

I've read The Expanse books and the TV company got it just right. Just disappointed that they never finished the series, only 6 books done, still 3 to go.

Well, the production values of House of the Dragon Ep.1 look good. As in the sets, costumes, spectacle etc. However, I thought some of the CGI looked ropey in places. Not the CGI rendering detail as such (which was good|), but the superimposing and/or green screen insertions/overlays, which stood out at times.
As for the show itself, I really enjoyed it.
It perhaps doesn't have the incredible range of fascinating characters that Game Of Thrones had, but that's probably down to the limited source material. For the most part, the dramatisation of what is essentially just historical chronicles has hit the spot. The depiction of Aemma's desparate c-section was really quite harrowing....

Yes, it is a shame they stopped. The last series felt as little rushed, but still great.
To quote a famous film "I've got a bad feeling about this..."
I dunno, every time I watch something new, I become a little more cynical about TV. There is so much that is just formulated and is the world through Hollywood eyes. Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy. I wonder if I could go back to just reading and never watching TV? Maybe then I will find peace. ;)
Go to the YouTube page for Amazon's official Rings of Power trailer and read the comments section - it's hilarious! :))
I know Tolkien fans can be the most anal nerds ever (occasionally me included :-S ) but even most of them enjoyed Peter Jackson's LotR movies (The Hobbit ones maybe less so). But this new series really looks like it's going to mash up and make a complete nonsense of what people like about Tolkien, but it also just looks like a wannabe knockoff of so much else out there.
It kind of looks like a new Marvel franchise set in Middle-earth. But not Tolkien's Middle-earth, more like Marvel's alternative take on the old Nordic sagas, - Asgard, Thor et al.
i.e. some of the names are the same, but otherwise it's unrecognizable... :-O
Finished Light & Magic last night and I strongly recommend watching it if you have any interest in movie special effects, or movies in general. There were some real eye-openers that I knew nothing about. Probably nothing that a quick Google wouldn't tell you but I had no idea until now. Here's a taster:
- I knew that Pixar was started by Steve Jobs but I had no idea of ILM's history behind it before Jobs purchased it.
- Photoshop was basically invented by an ILM employee and his brother.
- The bit in Jurassic Park where the T-Rex eats the guy on the toilet? When he's being gulped down the legs are the legs of the T-1000 with a pair of trousers on!
- The way The Mandalorian sets are filmed literally made my jaw drop. It is absolutely staggering the technology they're now using and makes sense of how quickly they can release episodes.
I honestly have a new respect for George Lucas after watching it (I've always thought he was a genius anyway, although he can be up his own arse). He really was trying to push movie-making forward constantly throughout his career and he really did put his money where his mouth is to make things easier for all movie makers.
I get that the film industry is trying to improve the diversity and show the world is made up of different people / sexes, but what is this obsession of taking something that exists and twisting it to their own needs. Are they that desperate and incompetent that they cannot create their own original world / story and new characters?
I've got the ILM story marked, so thanks for the heads up Vampyre, sounds like a good tea time watch that one.

Always worth rewatching Sean Carroll explaining field theory by means of the Insane Clown Posse.
Hmm timestamp link did not work, Insane Clown Posse bit is at 14 minutes in.

But all I see is this!

We'll need a Black Celebration thread to sort this out. :)
