  • I haven't seen any Hobbit or LOTR films.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • Not surprised. I seen the cartoon Hobbit from the 70s and that's not bad, I did go to see the first LOTR but fell asleep and walked out anyway. Was REALLY boring. After an hour I just wanted out. Bored to tears.

Anyhoo, this may be heresay, but I tried reading the book waaay back and found it utterly boring and a chore. The hobbit book is good though.
I stole it off a space ship.
  • I don't know why they cast a bloke with a 'bad guy' face as Elrond. Makes no sense to me. He looks like the least trustworthy person in the show so far, a show that heavily features 'travellers'
  • I think I might watch it just to see how it compares to Amazon's interpretation of Wheel Of Time. Now that was an absolute **** butchering. Everything any good from the novels they just tossed away to fit a woke narrative. I defended it at first but by the end even I had to admit it was appalling. The writers were supposed to be huge fans of the novels - it was like they'd given it a vague glimpse

52 minutes in Lenny Henry talking in an equally shite Oirish accent! It's funnier than his comedy, but it's supposed to be serious :))

    Lenny Henry? :))

    Yup he's in there! :))

I don't know the Wheel of Time books, but the show was pretty poor.

I only know the basic Hobbit/LOTR stuff, not delving into the Silmarrilion or Unfinished Tales or anything else. The new show is better than Wheel of Time straight off the bat. It isn't a brilliant show, but it's better.

  • Ælita - there's a film on tonight on Film Four called Alita: Battle Angel. Are you the star? :))

  • I did finish off watching the second episode of Rings of Power last night. I’ll be honest I can’t fully claim that it’s absolutely shite just yet as it’s really only getting started. But Elrond and Galadriel seem like the worst characters, and they’re supposed to be pretty much leading the show right now.

I’ll be honest the black characters even though they’ve literally just been shoehorned in there (Amazon pretty much admitted they were ticking the diversity boxes) are actually quite good. The Elf ranger seems like a really good strong character so far, and Disa the dwarven princess even though the previews, and hype shoved her in your face constantly has only had about 3 minutes on screen but struck me as quite a likable character very amusing. But Lenny Henry as a Hobbit with that bloody awful accent is bothering me something rotten.

I’m not too fussed about race swapped characters if the actors play the roles well, although since these are original characters technically they’re not actually race swapped at all, even if they do contradict the original writings.

I’m going to continue watching it, because so far even though it’s quite bad, there’s a lot to like as well. I should hope so as well considering Amazon have invested over a billion dollars into it. Rumour has it if this show bombs Amazon may have to stop making original content.

  • They’re getting on a bit now, funny thing is though if the singer dyed his hair black he’d look like he’d barely aged at all.

  • Yeah. That's the one. One of the first full length sci-fi movies from 1924. The sets and outfits are extraordinary. Nothing like it being seen to that point. Flash Gordon's style is based on it.

    Yeah! :)

  • I suppose there's sombre music and stuffs on most channels in the UK for several days at least so it's a good job I hardly watch any TV.

Bell ringing for an hour at noon tomorrow might get on my nerves though.

  • Now I get this weird image of mel torturing poor zx1 by forcing him to watch that video, mel manically laughing as zx1 is strapped to a chair, crying as he goes through his 20th or so viewing :((

... but the age difference would have been to big anyway, as I guess mel is at least 10 years older than zx1.

  • Well, i'm 48. I'm sure Mel is probably about the same age :D
That video has the scariest house in Britain. Hard to believe it was directed by Godley and Creme who were with 10cc.
