Where are you pointing at? Those light guns only works on CRT TVs at 50/60 Hz. LCD, TFT, plasma, LED TVs won't work.
If you use a good old TV and it doesn't work, maybe there is a test program that checks trigger and photo diode status. -

David Saphier provided a screen shot of my simple test program and it shows a sequence of 15s before reading the display memory. The final attribute byte at 23295 is 56 (57 when read). Why 15? Dunno!
