    Exactly, yes. Instead of typing it into a spectrum, I wrote it on the PC, and used ZX BASIC to make that .tzx file.

    It does end up as Machine Code - but that basic source code is what I made it from.

    Also, learning proper, structured BASIC syntax (which ZX Basic uses) is highly recommended as it will let you get the hang with different compilers in the future.

    I hadn't seen SMAX. Wow.

    I am firmly of the opinion that the speccy should be programmed in a variant of basic, though :-P

    I meant BASIC Compiler. The z88dk is fine for someone who can code in C, but I don't do so.

    Next version (1.2.6) of ZX BASIC Compiler by Boriel will have fast binary operations BAND, BOR, BNOT and BXOR, later versions also seting, reseting and testing of single bits. Already available is bitshifting. Surely worth a download.
