    I use a C64c supply with a homemade adapter to take the 9v for my +2 at the moment, its rated as 1.7A at 9v (really 10.1v). Works very well.

    My +3 power supply doesn't have a 9v output, only +-5 and 12v.

    In general "no video but keyclicks" suggests absence of 12V.
    This voltage is generated inside the Spectrum, together with -5V for lower memory. Absence of these voltages might (will) damage lower memory.

    Pin 1 (comp video) and 2 (ground).

    Note that the +2A/+3 has 12v on pin 1, which is why gasman warned you about +2 only ;-)
