Well, although AY sound can be boring (especially in crap techno tunes), but actually I prefer ZX songs than C64 songs.
And I always try to make new interesting sounds using AY.

Yeah, it could be anything ULA, ROM, RAM...or a combination of them.

I never got one in the eighties, I got many now as a choice. Because the AY sound is something else. Yes I got a TS1000 and a 48K, but still they look nice :) -
