The AY chip gives a much better noise channel IMO. It has much more 'squelch' and depth to it than the YM. -

Yerz - you're wrong about the AY not being able to do that same. It essentially produces a square wave like the beeper - digital output being possibly merely by adjusting the channel amplitudes over time. -
