If I recall correctly it wasn't interupt driven for reasoning of timing accuracy rather than need for the full CPU power.
Either way if it's four times faster than 50Hz that's still only 200Hz - well below what you need for passable samples. -

So are you saying that it will work at 60Hz and everything will run too fast and the screen's vblanking will be off, etc?
(I have a RGB screen capable of 50Hz and 60Hz display).
