Sounds to me like a PC game called Virus (not the David Braben game) in which you flew around a 3D representation of your hard disk. If the virus spreads into your system files, odd things start to happen like you lose mouse control.

Thanks for the reply - it was just me being stupid - once I dragged the mouse far enough, it jumped to twice the size.
