Isn't the fastest way having the sprites pre-rotated in memory before shoving them on screen as quick as possible?
Uses loads of memory but there shouldn't be much speed difference vertically or horizontally this way? -

France is the country I'm particularly interested in, so to hear that a 128 wouldn't play sound back properly is a bugger. But if the original 48K BEEPer still works on the old models then all is not lost. -
