The best classical tracker for AY is SQTracker, for sampled music SampleTracker and for the beeper either ZX7 (8-channel sound) or Orfeus (nice editor). -

Actually its coz usually tunes on the ST use timers so can do stuff thats hard to do
on speccy without hogging the z80. but normal atari tunes can play yes.

Didn't the ST also have a white noise generator that could be used for drum sounds (or was that the Amiga?).
Some ST tunes were nowhere near as good as the Speccy originals, eg. Stormbringer, Bubble Bobble. -
