It remains always white, even when resetting the machine. And the paper is black as soon as the machine is powered on.
If I remove Vram I get random coloured squares (no surprise there). -

When following the traces, somehow I cleared up the short between A10 and D1. Now I am back to having the machine show white border and a paper that is flashing between black and red lines. Any suggestion on that? -

I see. Distance tracing. Did not think about doing that with a multimeter. However the short is cleared now for some reason. Now have white border and flashing red and black horizontal lines on paper. No idea where it is going wrong there. -
