I'm wondering if it's one of the lower RAM ceramic caps (C1 to C8 ) at fault? That vertical line didn't look to be present when the replacement lower RAM module was in place...
Replacements are 47nf, 25V I believe.

The part pointed out by Mark is a standard tantalum capacitor. The capacity (range 1-10 uF) and the max. voltage (range 15-50V) will be written on it. There also should be a sign from which the polarity can be detected, the things have a + and a - side.
