That's odd, I can hear the coil on an Issue 4S board. (I've also had a hairline splatter from desoldering cause a short on an 4S board despite the green solder resist on both sides).
Wonder what the wave form going into the coil looks like. -

If the Timex uses 4116 RAM, it probably has a little switch mode power supply to generate the -5v/+12v supply to the memory. It's probably the coil making that noise.
