    If you have a Sony TV of that vintage, you will probably find for RGB or composite, it will automatically select correctly between PAL and NTSC. If you get a meaningful display at all then it's likely the TV is working fine and decoding the signal fine.

    Use a lookup table aligned on a 256 byte boundary. Then you have a fixed high byte address and the byte you're reflecting becomes the offset into the table.

    Of course you still need to build this table with ugly rotate opcodes first!
