If it was wired for composite PAL then it would not work as the Plus2A/Plus3 do not have composite PAL just RGB.
All previous Spectrum 128`s had composite PAL (video)as well as RGB not the newer PLus2A/+3`s

Not all 128K Spectrum! French grey +2 don't have composite PAL, only RGB output. -

I left the original R72 in place and then soldered the 72 Ohm across it parallel.
I now have perfect clear sound, no more of that distortion.
