They're used to finely tune the two crystals on the board, they won't affect colour but finely tuning TC2 (I think) can help minimise the dot crawl effect. Of course, you have to have colour to see that :D

Connecting the luma circuitry to the TR2 emitter will work also of course but do not see any difference in quality compared to a connection to the luma output at the RF box. Dot Crawl is definitely out :-). Nice overall picture finally!! -
