hmm... i won't say I understood everything you said cyborg, but from what I have understood, it would seem that in 128K mode, it would be better to let the AY chip do the music and the beeper the sound effects for best performance eh? -

There's a nice 128k version which uses the AY just for bass and drums and has the old 48k bit in the background - always sounds horribly out of tune on emulators tho ;| -

I just can't be bothered with 128K at all. In fact I don't really bother keeping any 128K games in my archive. To me, any AY sound spoils the games. I much prefer 48K sound.
To me, the rubber key 48K is the ONLY speccy :D -

Yeah, it could be anything ULA, ROM, RAM...or a combination of them.
It took me 8 months of tinkering with my 128k+ to find that it was a faulty AY sound chip. Thanks to Gary who had a spare AY chip :)
