    Mint Debian / xfce is probably a fairly safe choice.

    If I recall the Linux version of this netbook was based on Debian Arm. It might be a good choice of distro to try first.

    I would try installing Debian, then installing FUSE straight from the repos. I'd think there is a fighting chance that it would 'just work', with little or no further messing / configuring needed.
