    You need to play it in an emulator (such as SPIN or Spectaculator) with the Fuller joystick attached. The game assumes that there is one, and the lack of one combined with floating bus behaviour produces that effect.

    Looks like the game ignores the keyboard if a kempston is attached.

    So you either need an emulator with kempston joystick support or, for keyboard, an emulator that gives floating bus behaviour on port 31.

    There was a version of Cobra on a Plus 3 compilation disk: The Magnificent Seven, which must use some alternative to the floating bus.

    Just checked. The version of Cobra released by the Hit Squad doesn't use floating bus.

    You're not missing anything. Dunny accidently built at least the last couple of releases using the old contention/floating bus code. Believe me, your game does not flicker at all when built with the correct source :)

    What problem are you having?

    Port $FF is an unattached port - it will reliably return $FF on a read in +2a/+3 hardware, and floating bus results for any prior models.
