As long as there is nothing wrong with the tape amp or such in the speccy youre good to go! Its head to head, no tape so a direct signal. I use one of these in my grey +2 and using my iphone with Speccytape app, everything loads, all the time. -

Yes, the plugs are identical on all PSU's up to and including the grey +2 one.
The +2A and +3 PSU's have a 6 pin DIN connector and obviously can't be used on earlier machines :)
