    I think the problem is caused by a component overheated. The ULA is the first candidate, so you can check the chip looking for excesive heat.

    The Amperage isn't the problem.
    Ferranti, who made the ULA said "don't use more than 75% of circuits in this chip." then Sinclair said "we'll use around 90% of the ULA" and the beautiful machine has had heat dispersion problems ever since.
