As for loading from tape, can you not consider making a part of the SD card act like a Microdrive and you emulate the IF1 instead (that's what I was going to do!) So you just copy the snapshots to the SD card and load from there? -

Could be a bad /M1 line on the CPU? This definitely causes problems with DivIDE's, think it should also manifest itself on an IF1.
If your CPU's are socketed, try swapping them over to check.
