It's very possible to connect the PC and Spectrum/IF1 together and share files. For the PC to control the whole thing is again, possible - you just make the Spectrum a "slave" terminal.

I can confirm that I've had an IF1 and microdrives working successfully with a (grey) +2.
Never had any problems physically connecting it either, which slightly puzzles me...
