I don't see any reason you couldn't get an interrupt between the RET and the LD IY. Looks like a classic race condition to me. -

Every interrupt gives you a 50Hz rate ... . Every other interrupt gives you a 25Hz rate ... Spectrum because there is an interrupt available at that frequency.
