There is an adaptor to convert the 9 pin joysticks to the PC, I have one and it works well, I personally use a gamepad which I find much easier to use than a joystick (I'm shit at the games though) -

Made a slight miscalculation, it has the ports of the old pc type of joystick not Atari Joysticks, Doh, will have to get a different adaptor.
